Spring Software Trouble

I downloaded a new software update a few weeks ago and it totally messed up my collection, particularly file names/labels. I couldn't effectively get the software to just list all my music by the file names I designated on my computer; some, but not all. So I manually changed the rest in the zune software which took forever. After updating the software, all that work was gone. Songs are named incorrectly, some are denoted by weird symbols, a bunch went back to being an unknown artist. Some songs are labeled as an artist or song I don't even have and weren't even like that with the old software. So random! If I want everything back to normal, do I have to go and manually change all the names again or what? Will it help if I go back to the old software? Ugh!
