Gen 1 For help with the Zune 30.

Question Charging issues, where I used to have none.


Black/30 Zune, Firmware 2.5, bootloader 435 (if that matters)

I commute to work almost an hour each way. So, I set myself up with several ways to charge my Zune.
  • Home Computer
  • Car Charger
  • Work Computer(s)
I can't say if it was immediately after the 2.5 update, but I'm almost positive it was. Here is the issue, I was able to charge from my home comp, work comps and my car charger, no issues on any computer or any USB port. Now my Zune will ONLY charge from my home computer.

I've tried multiple USB ports at work, here is what it does. It will die completely and show me the battery/! symbol. I'll plug it into various USB ports at work, it will show the battery/plug symbol to show its charging. Once there is enough juice in the Zune to power up, it does so, it gets to home page and thats it, no more charging. No lightning icon, it will slowly drain itself dead until its off, the battery/plug will come back on it will charge to where it powers up, and repeat this.

No matter where I plug it in, when the zune is on, it will not charge, other than on my home computer.

So do I have to have Zune software installed on a computer I wish to charge the zune on?

I heard connecting it to like an Xbox360 or PS3 could help, but it would flash the lightning bolt twice rapidly, in 5 second intervals and never raise my battery level.

Any advice or ideas? Going to try completely killing battery, til the battery/! can no longer come on, charging for 12 hours, and reupdating firmware. I've had this Zune for about 1-1.5 years with NO issues until now.

i dont really know what to tell you besides call customer service

i had an issue with my zune 30 where it would not charge AT ALL (plugged into every possible port) so i called them and they sent me another.

Customer Service as in Staples where I bought it, or the folks that gave me the extended warranty?
