Default NEED HELP WITH ZUNE!

Ok. Well i bought my Zune on ebay and recieved it earlier today. I opened it and everything and it was perfectly new. I already installed the Zune software prior to actually recieving my Zune. So first i connected my zune to my computer (zune was off when i plugged it into my comp). I was expecting to see "New hardware found" or something or even for the software to automatically connect the device to the software. I manually got it to connect and it went to the upgrade Zune to latest firmware window thing. And it says waiting to upgrade or something like that (the screen on my zune has the logo on it and says Zune and has the white bar below it). I give it a couple mins and it still says its waiting and the screen on my zune has changed. i was expecting to see a bar or some sign that it was upgrading but nothing happened after about 10 mins. So i cancled the upgrade and unplugged my Zune from my comp. The screen on my zune still has the Logo on it with Zune and has the white bar on it. I tried turning it off and restarting it with all the possible ways of the buttons that were on the ones on the support site but nothing happened still. I had to leave for work so i brought it with me hoping on of my coworkers could help me with it. They werent there and i was stuck with a frozen Zune. I let the battery die and when i got home i charged it with my wall adapter. After about 20 mins of charging the screen says "Connect Zune to your PC" in 3 diff languages. So i connect it and nothing happens. I tried all i could think of and did what the support site told me to do. I cant call for support cause its closed right now and im eager to play with my zune.

I was hoping i wouldnt be one of those people who had a bad first time with my zune but i guess its just my luck that went bad. Has anyone had this happen to you or somewhat like it and have a solution to my problem or anything at all... im a little disappointed with my zune but i in my opinion zune over ipod. So really my comp isnt detecting my zune which means the software wont.... Im positive my comp meets the system requirements...

I take it you tried resetting it, not just turning it off?

Reset is the back button and up.

If you tried that and that didn't work, try putting it into another USB port on the computer.

I know with mine, it gets cranky in the front ports of my tower, so I have to plug them in the back on the board. Nothing's wrong with your software. I suspected that to be the case with mine a few times, but try resetting it and plugging it into a different port.

Tell us if that works or not.

Your Zune was stuck on that screen because you did not successfully complete the setup process. First I would uninstall the software you installed before you got your Zune and then install the software disc that came with your Zune. Uploading the Firmware does take a little while so don't be too impatient. I have 2 Zunes and connected one to the computer that had already been setup for the other and I had a similar problem. I had to uninstall the software and start again with the cd that came with it. I have 2 computers and had them both set up for one. Now I have one setup for one and one for the other.

Hope this helps

Woody

As of last night when i had to drain my battary to make the "Connect Zune to your PC" go away i had to charge it after i got home from school. So i let it charge on my wall adapter while i was at work for about 7 hours. I noticed from the first time i charged it the pic of the big battary and the plug in sign on my zune screen kept flickering on and off and this time when i charged it the screen just remained still not blinking. I unplugged my zune from charging and the screen was still the same pic of the battary. i tried turning it off and reseting it but not affect. After i uninstalled the software and used the startup disk that came with. As it got the "Make a connection" part of the software disk, it just said scanning for device. Nothing still happened, and im aware that it says on that same page it says "If theres a big picture of a battary on your Zune display, it needs to be charged. Wait one minute, then clip skip ot configure the zune software while it charges". Well how much more does it need to charge or even knowing that it is charging right now? I have tried plugging it into all the ports but nothing still. Maybe it has to fully charge? i guess ill find out if thats it. I didnt get a chance to call microsoft support but i will tomarrow since im not working. If they cant help me... i resort to see if i can return it to the seller (which i doubt will happen) or just get it replaced with the warrenty.... But ive been waiting so long for my Zune but am disappointed with what im experiencing so far.

Also in this support page. It talks about Port Devices and Other Devices, but when i plug my Zune into my computer i see none of those options.

You just have to reflash it.

All you do is restart (hold down back and up)

Then, while it is restarting, you need to do a refash (hold down back, left and the select button).

That should be it.

If those are not the right commands, call Microsoft and ask them how to reflash the zune to factory settings. They'll tell you in like 2 minutes.

Don't bother tellingthem everything yo told us, they'll just be stupid and act all dumb.

If that doesnt work, return it and get another.

Your fault you bricked your zune.

I just contacted the support team and they couldnt do anything with my Zune. My last options are tryin to return it at Walmart (even tho i didnt get mines from there), try to work something out with the seller on ebay (which i doubt will happen) or if all else fails send my Zune back to get it repaired my Microsoft and wait about a month to get it.....

You can return it to walmart or costco, check some of the threads under these for instructions and what not.
