due to problems with my zune, i decided to follow the article in the kb and restore the zune firmware. everything went fine untill a came to the bit which is screen 1,"connect zune to PC" when i connect it, it flashes to screen 2, "open the zune software, and install the new firmware". however it just flashes back to screen 1 and is just jumping between screens 1+2 untill i unplug it.
please help, nothing i do will let me get any further. i am using windows xp home.

that problem happened with me too.. just close the zune software on the computer and restart it again.. then try doing the same thing.... itll work... i had the same problemo today......
2 Months. Ouch, I feel your pain. Seems MS did a good job Locking down the zune. if I knew how I would post up the firmware, but I am somehwat of a newb myself.
I formatted mine twice today because of software problems, and re-installed firmware and software several times! FINALY I have my music nice and organized. MS has several critial bugs. I swear they must have outsourced this project to someplace to save a buck or two. Many issues should not exist that do, esp at this time and date. The Zune is a great device, It will in time mature, unless MS drops support it like they do OS's in crys to get more money.
I'm looking forward to the new firmware in hopes that all concentration has been on this, and that the updates etc have just been little patches and fixes to get by.
As a developer I know that sometimes this is for the best. But you need to have ACCESS to that new software in order for it to be any good!
Sorry for the rant but don't give up hope and keep trying, and remember worse case a zune with a fresh format might still pull cash on ebay etc in worst case.
Yeah, I'm thinking MS took a look at the iPod homebrew scene and decided they wanted nothing of it. It really is a pain for common users though.
Even if you could upload the firmware (which is actually already uploaded), you'd have to go about tricking the software in to accepting it as an update.

ok, i have updated to the latest software. still no improvement. i do not understand what the problem is. should i try and contact Microsoft to see if they can come up with the answer to these problems.

background to the problem(yep, just about every key detail i can think of!) :
when i first go the zune,(last december as a christmas present) i was running vista beta 2, since originally, the software was not designed for vista, i had to find a patch(eventually i found 1 on modaco.com) i used to patch, plugged in the zune and it all worked fine. Then microsoft released vista rc1. the software had not yet been updated for vista so i used the patch on modaco.com again. with success (eventually!). however when the rc1 came to a close in july, i reverted back to windows xp(using the manufacturers disc that came with my hp computer(a610uk)). i installed the zune software, knowing that i wouldn't need to use the patch on modaco(as this was going on an xp computer). this time, i had no success, i could get the zune software to install however i would either get a code 10(this device cannot be found error or it would just not be detected.(some of my earilier threads were about these.)) the zune however would work fine, as long as i didn't need to connect it to do anything over than charge it. i tried the zune on several seperate xp p.c.s with no luck on any of them. in desperation, i decided that it must be some corrupt file on the zune so i used the shortcut keys to erase all content from the zune(not the firmware. YET). however this still did not have any effect on the zune itself(over than there was no longer anything on it other than the firmware). In even more desperate desperation, i decided to try reinstalling the zune firmware. using the online kb article i stared the process, erasing the firmware and then following the steps of the basic screens untll screen number 1. (Connect Zune to your PC). when connected to a pc using the sync cable, it just flashes between screen number 1 and screen number 2. i have tried on vista ultimate PC's as well(the UK version ONLY) with no luck on any pc. why is this not working, and what can i do.

Quite a few people seem to be getting this Code 10. If you wouldn't mind calling MS, that'd be the best (and it's free). However, if they don't help, come back and we'll see what we can do

the code 10, is not the error i am getting. i am not getting any message on the computer. and surely it would cost to phone MS because i am not in the us and any uk helpline would surely be no use.
