Default The Zunes Video Quality Of Movies And Videos

Well i have tried alot of DVD to avi, wmv, divx, etc. converters and no luck without it looking good on the Zune. Because what happens is when i do rip the dvd it loses quality in the avi file. When i put it on my Zune it looks sorta choppy-like like all the dark spots are all mis-colored. What i want is a really good program that is a good ripper with no lose of dvd quality and im not talking about them free programs im on the lines of looking for programs like programs like Roxio, Nero, and DVD Movie Factory. If you know any really good programs that converts DVD's into formats on the hard drive please let me know!!

Jager,

Most pograms, free and comemrcial can create crappy looking videos and great looking videos.

It all comes down to the bit rate you choose to sample the content in. A higher sample rate will produce better results, but will create a larger file.

Try converting at higher sample rates until you find one that you like.

Straight from Zune.net:

This applies only to the video formats that the Zune device supports. The Zune app supports more, but has to convert media in other formats to those listed above.

Natively Supported Formats on the Zune Device
  • Format: Windows Media Video (.wmv)
  • Video codec: Windows Media Video 9 (Simple, Main, and Advanced Profiles), Windows Media Video 9 Screen, Windows Media Video 9 Image Version 2, Windows Media Video 9 VCM.
  • Video resolution: up to 320x240 (QVGA) or 320x180 (16:9 QVGA)
  • Maximum video bit rate: 500 Kbps (recommended for the best balance of optimal battery life and video quality) up to 1.5 Mbps
  • Video peak bit rate: up to 1.5 Mbps
  • Complexity or profile: Main profile, VBR
  • Audio codec: Windows Media Audio (.wma)
  • Maximum audio bit rate: WMA Standard, CBR, 128 Kbps (recommended), up to 192 Kbps, Stereo, 44.1 kHz
  • Maximum total bit rate: 1.692 Mbps, 1.5 Mbps for peak video plus 192 Kbps for audio

I'm running the Magic DVD Ripper (Google it) I have it set to rip it straight to WMV under VHS quality (320x240 pixels; FM Quality Audio) to skip double conversions and quality loss. It looks like watching a dvd on the Zune, great quality and doesn't look too bad when hooked up to a TV either. I definitely recommend.

Very interesting. Is the program free?

The program I am using at the moment is AVS Video Converter 4. It converts everything fine and the quality is good. Its just that it takes a LONG time to convert movies (300mb movies take like 50min).

Or it might just be my comptuer... ???

I'm running the trial, you can only open the program 3 times, but when you have it open you can rip as many movies your heart desires (or you have). Under the quality that I'm doing, each movie is about 275-450 megs and a 30 min. episode of Family guy is about 50 megs. The rip time is kinda slow. An hour and a half movie takes about an hour to an hour and a half.

Since you mentioned not wanting the crap free programs, my I suggest you give TMPGEnc Xpress a try. It converts everything and my videos come out with great quality and no choppiness or anything like that. They have a trail of it. Go here: http://tmpgenc.pegasys-inc.com/en/index.html
