Default What is the best method of charing for long term battery life?

I have a Zune 120, and i am not planning on changing MP3 players until this one completely craps out on me. I had my Dell DJ 30 for 6+ years, and i plan on making this one last a long time too.

My Dell DJ died because i guess i charged it too often and the battery life got cut down from hours to literally 15 minutes. I want to avoid this.

How should i charge my MP3 player now? Only when its about to die and make sure its 100% charged before i take it off the charger? That is what i heard, but i dont know if this is true.

Would leaving it charging whenever im not using it be unhealthy to its long term life?

Help me out with this, i want to maintain this MP3 player as long as i possibly can.

Running it down to 0 is good to do often. But you don't have to for every charge.

What you heard is generally accepted as correct. Charge when the battery is almost out of juice.

So leaving it plugged in even when its already full and charged 100% isnt a good idea?

No, it is not. People keep saying this and I have no clue why. That will kill your battery. It is okay to very rarely let the battery to reach around 15% to 20%, but do not let it reach too close to zero. That will speed up the death of your battery.

It is a good idea if you want to have your battery last longer. Using the battery instead of keeping it plugged in when possible will greatly increase the amount of cycles that your battery goes through, which will ruin your battery faster.

I have seen no evidence of the opposite of what I said. Here are a couple quick references:

Very interesting, I will keep that in mind, I guess I will charge it when it gets below 75% power now! (If possible at least)

Here's what you should do: charge your battery only when necessary, but when you DO plug it in, leave it plugged in for a while, if that makes sense. So plug it in when it gets to about 20%, but make sure it is 100% charged when you take it off. Also, don't unplug unless necessary. So only change from one to the other if necessary.

It depends on the kind of lithium-ion battery in use. Generally, with the kind found in cell phones, it's necessary to let them die completely every once in a while. It's how the battery calibrates itself. Doing this with the zune, however, just dramatically shortens the battery life. So, in the case of the zune DON'T let your battery die completely.

In this case, completely disregard my suggestion, because I was totally wrong lol.

break the battery in by draining it a few times (all the way down) before you start doing half charges
