The lock switch on my Zune 80GB broke. It is still there, but when I took it off to examine it, the thing attaching it to the actual switch inside the device snapped. Therefore, the switch just freely moves from side to side and will not actually lock it.
My warranty runs out in 2 days and I wonder if it is considered as a solution to fix. Also, if I send my Zune in, how long until I get it back and will I get a brand new one or the same one? Finally, will my music, etc. be erased, and if so, can I just copy it all to my computer and resync it all to a new one?
Well, your only solution to fix it would be to replace the motherboard or to somehow find a switch by itself, desolder the one on the board, and then solder in a new one. I don't know about replacement time, it varies. You will generally get a "new" (read: refurb) Zune, so you will not have any of your music on it, so make sure it's all backed up.
So as long as sync it all to another computer, no matter if the original file is one there or not, I'll be able to put it all back on the new Zune?
Yes - it's called a "reverse sync", so the files are copied from your Zune to the PC. But, check the sync results before you send it in, to make sure all the files are actually there.
I am thinking of paying for the extended warranty so I can send it in a bit later. I am going on vacation in 2 weeks and I don't want to risk not having my Zune. Is it worth the money?
If I do get it, I can at least know that I am covered if the refurb breaks...
yes send it in. Don't you want a working zune. And you don't want to open it up and then have to pay extra to get it fixed, or have to buy a whole new zune. I think that the price now while just one thing is broken would be cheaper than when more than one thing is broken
