If there is anything i can do i am willing to help whether it be images or helping with th storyline.
And i am happy to see somebody pushing to do a big project like this. i have some knowledge in maya and rhino.

what i need more then anything right now is a programmer that'll put all of my renders together.
but it would be nice if i had someone to take care of making characters. do you know how to model texture rig and render a character in maya?
see though the only problem, is that if it gets to big it wont fit, currently the zune has a reserved space of(I think, im not sure) 2gigs for games.
per game
It's nice to see more people getting interested in Zune Games. I've made a few apps and a game or two, in comparison to some of the programmers around here, I am just a total n00b. The main guys are those in purple.
I suggest trying to post your ideas here as well as you can to get them interested, there's a lot of people who think they know more than they do around here.
Also take a look through the Development Discussion forum, there's a couple different visual engines already made. There's the raycasting one and there's also one in decent software-based 3D.
The thing I've noticed about the Zune is that depending on how efficiently you program you can either make a menu that lags epically, or make a 3D game with a 100ms total responce time.
I'm not sure I understand your method. You're planning on recording sequences? Or do you mean essentially 3D sprites? Keep in mind that there is no efficent way to display video, everything is done using textures. If you want to draw a line at an angle, either draw it ahead of time in photoshop or draw it in one pixel rectangles (or make a vertical rectangle 1 px wide and rotate it). Hence why I recommend using a premade system, makes it easier, making your own makes it into a large project when you deal with efficency.

i think i'm just gonna get a mel scripter that i work with to quickly learn the programing stuff. it would be easier to work with this stuff in person anyway. but if any programmers do come across this and want to help out still feel free to post.
Yes! I like what you are trying to do here. I cant help too much at the moment because im trying to get some progress on zune sniper(a bit hard when i cant program or make graphics!). But i appreciate that someone (other then Dino Games) is attempting to make a truly good game! As soon as i learn more about everything i will be glad to help! btw +rep
Netrix, this is like the 3rd or forth post I've seen where you bring up your top secret 'epic' project. Do you just like to brag about it? or just want everyone else to feel suspenceful?

I see no harm in saying why I can not help. In addition, I said not to ask me about it. If I wanted to brag, I would be saying stuff about it.
To keep (at least a part of) this post relevant to the topic...
Even though the video in the first post is around 5 MB, it does not necessarily mean that it would only take up that much space on the Zune. Some video formats are considerable compressed. The images would be decompressed, which can multiply the their size several times. One PNG that have is 63 KB compressed, and almost 9 MB decompressed. You would have to see what the size of a decompressed image that you would be using is and make your estimates according to that.

Hey leef what's up?
Nice thing you got going on here. +rep
I'm currently in the proccess of teaching myself c# so I'll be able to help you out more later on.
I think I understand what you're trying to do. You're trying to create a 3d look without actually using anythind 3dish. Not even raycasting! I think. Anyway I think I know how to do this so i'll tell you how I would do it.
I think you mentioned you were working on maya right? Anyway, you probably have already created a really good 3d environment. Hopefully It's more complete than your cool little preview vid. If you post a few screenshots, it would help my reasoning out a lot. Since this is going to be a first person shooter we need to create a camera, place it at eyelevel of the player and create paths for the camera. If I get what you are saying, we need to record these paths visually after you have recreated them on maya. If you want to be more realistic we should design the path to jostle around a bit (in sync with the footsteps). We need to figure out how the player (and therefore camera) will move. Will it suddenly teleport to the direction to which you pressed the button? or will it smoothly transition and turn? Here's a list of the paths:
Once the paths have been created, we need to make the environments that this path would be used in.
pathforward
pathleft
pathright
pathleftrightforward
pathrightforward
pathleftforward
pathleftright
pathend(this would not be a recording but just a pic to copy)
pathup**
pathdown**
**assuming we will have elevators in the game. which we should, as watching the walls sliding downward would a good transition for loading times. (While loading the next level, the zune would show walls sliding down or up as if in
an elevator)
You would have to run every camera path possible on the appropriate paths [rendered] and record the action on every one.I really hope you understand what I'm saying. anyway, this would mimic the simple action of moving through the game. If this is not how you are planning to do it then oh well.
sorry for the off topic but isn't it you who was working on something like an rpg until you found out about valgard's fate, or was that someone else?
anyways, back on topic. I would love to see this work, but it would take lots of time and patience.
No. I knew about Valgard's Fate before.
This idea might actually work, but there will have to be a lot dynamic loading/unloading. The 16 MB limit might be annoying, but it will not make it impossible.

ok wow. let me first say thank you so much for all of the support. i wish i didn't take the short break i did from zuneboards cuz i missed alot of posts here. i'm gonna try and answer all questions and respond to all posts here.
ok, king tut. i want your help. you seem to understand what i'm trying to do and exactly how i want to do it. i will have a basic step map up soon (i just need some time cuz i have alot of other projects i'm working on that aren't just for fun). you also have a lot of good ideas that i haven't put into consideration yet. so yeah you stay with this thread cuz you'll be a big help on all of this.
ok, next up. i currently render out as .iff which is a non-compressed format so it'll stay the size it is no matter what. but i am also aware that the zune prob doesn't support .iff so i'll try another non-compressed format but either way this doesn't worry me
ok so i thought there were a lot more posts on here about my game and not off topic stuff... haha oh well.
i'm sorry i've taken so long to respond, but i thought this thread was dead so i was gonna do all my work in silence... but now that i see this i'll keep all you awesome people posted on what's up.
just updated first post go check out the first post it'll help you guys understand just how this will work
