Default [APP] Document viewer

Game Name: .Txt viewer
Describe the Gameplay: Self explanatory
Tips/Suggestions for the Development Team: read below

Since the iPod has a .txt viewer built in (or at least I think it does) I think it would be great for the Zune to have a document viewer for, say, .doc or .txt files. Developers could somehow integrated a system in which a person can put their .txt files in a certain folder and the program reads them. Zuners can deploy their entire game (.txt files and 'game' code) whenever they want to add more .txt files.

This would be especially useful for guitar players who want to put tabs on their Zune!

I guess so. Programmers could make it so they open files from a set directory and the Zuners just place their files in that directory. Easier if the Zuners don't have to edit the game code manually for each file added.

Or maybe even the option of reading files directly off the harddrive in a specific directory, if the Zuner has the HDD hack

Yeah that would be alot easier than deploying the game everytime you want to add a file

Correct me if im wrong, but I dont believe xna has acccess to folders and files on the zune. A txt file could be included in the project, and built with the game.

i think that would be very doable and not so complicated i've discussed this with other people and have come up with an idea for a more refined one. The person who is developing an doc viewer i am helping them.

You would have to redeploy the game every time you wanted a new document on there. There is no way for XNA games to read arbitrary folders on the Zune's drive.

But more importantly: why? Why do you want to try and read .txt, .doc, .whatever on a 240x320 screen? Just because the iPod can? Seems rather useless in the end.

SimReality - you are missing the point. its not about if its practical, its about if we can. We are pushign the limits of the zune, this is an enthusiast's board.

It's not pushing any limits. It'd take me probably 5 minutes to have a .txt file go up with a game, read the data, and write it out as text. No limit pushing, just a useless display of data that you could have more easily just opened on the PC. Plus redeploying every time you want to get a new file up is a little silly.
