soo to find the temp.. its going to be different everytime. just look in the root directory for the bin files. then basically copy all the ones that have the bin to be safewith the firmware you hacked. volla
after, putting in the dns, the firmware has changed to 1.5 when I open up the zune program but there is still no error message. Have you guys encountered that or did you get the error message?

try restarting the zune program and java command. it should work after you reset the program
Under the Control panel -> Network and Internet connections -> Find the one you're using to connect to the internet and right-click, choose properties -> TCP/IP and click "properties", then choose the bottom circle to key in the DNS address.
I hope this would help, but I don't have a US-EN Windows XP so you might need to guess...

Well... do you have the cmd window running? (that "java -jar ....")
I did have the error message, so I don;t know what's the problem here.
it says new connection accepted /127.0.0.1:3641
and a whole bunch of stuff
at the end it says "java.io.ioexception:Stream closed
did the same thing show in your cmd window?
I also reformatted my Zune each time and waited until it asks me to connect it to pc.
I connect it to pc.
open zune program with javajar running in the background
I see update with firmware 1.5
I select next and no error message,
instead I see it transferring firmare until it says firmware up to date.
oh my goodness, I got the error message! yay thanks, now I just need to find the temp files, whats the easiest way to find them again? how do I search the root directory?
there's still some flaw in this method. The patched zune player will not update your zune to 1.4 anymore. I have to find an unmodified zune software to get it back to 1.4.

You are correct. It will say the firmware is up to date when trying update it.
If you find a way go get it back to 1.4, please share it with us.
Sorry, I still can't find it. I opened up the windows search function. I located the temp folder but I can't find the DCC90E02-B748-4CDA-9BD6-34E87CEBD20F. I also tried just pasting C:\Documents and Settings\NAME\Local Settings\Temp\{DCC90E02-B748-4CDA-9BD6-34E87CEBD20F} with my login name substituted but there it can't find it?
