I was hoping it was as simple as fixing the file paths in a few areas (\program files\ -> \program files(x86)\ ). No luck.

Start looking through my registry and found similar paths that already existed in the current_user hive. Not that it should have made any difference, but I tried adding the keys to both hives. Still no luck.

I'm still unable to add any of the filetypes to my library in order to sync/convert them.

Has anyone got this working on Vista Ultimate?
You seem to be knowledgable when it comes to the registry, so try just exporting the WMP extension handler registry files and then re-importing them under the Zune registry file.

super awesome suggestion. It worked like a charm.
Code:
steps:
exported key - HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\MediaPlayer\Player\Extensions

edit that .reg.
replaced HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\MediaPlayer\Player\Extensions
with
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Zune\Player\Extensions

and imported into registry
and all video files were added to library on the restart of zune.

---UPDATE---
The Combined Community Codec Pack will not work for the conversion of AVI filetypes. -Tested.
With avi support in CCCP enabled I receive error: Zune software cannot convert the file to the format required by the zune device.

and with avi support disabled in CCCP the following line is added to the error: One or more codecs required to convert the file could not be found.

I'm going to attempt a few other codecs to see if I can't find a specific one that works.

You are a god. Thank you SOOOO much for this; it saves me and my friends loads of time/money (if we would have bought a zune converter)!

After much trial and error, I've found a codec pack that worked for the conversion in Vista. Although, the conversion process is very... very slow for most AVIs I've tried.

I used the basic install of Nimo's Codec pack 5.0 build 9 beta 1.
which can be found here:
Code:
 http://nimo.titanesk.com/modules/freecontent/index.php?id=1
Previous builds also work, but--from what I saw--with a poor image encoding. Hopefully these codecs will fix the 0% -> error for others.

------edit---
Xvid's and divX's do not convert well. Open in WMP for a good idea of what it will be like on your zune.

Can someone please post a completely updated post as to where this project stands? I really don't want to read through all these pages. I just want to put my anime on my zune and watch it on the go.

OK so I got this to work amazingly well on my Media Center desktop, but it doesnt seem to work on my regular XP laptop. Everytime I feed it a file to convert it just says error. And yes Ive extracted, installed.

Thoughts?

Hey I didn't even make it as far as anyone on the board yet. I'm runing vista and when trying to even download it it says the required application requires elevation... WTH that does not compute

I installed the two files, but my Quick Time movies still do not show up in the Library even when I search the folders. Do I have to restart the PC for it to take affect? These are some of the QT movies that will not show up in the Zune program.

I also did the reg edit to replace the MediaPlayer with Zune. But when I looked at the fyle types, I didn't see .mov anywhere. But WMP11 plays these file types. What gives? Would the find/replace work with QuickTime reg entries?

So is this a hack that only runs on Media Center or what?

FYI, I'm on XP, WMP10, FW 1.4 and it wasn't working for me - it got stuck at converting. I tried the registry fix of swapping MediaPlayer for Zune and presto! It worked! Thanks!

Does anyone know how to get QT movies to work with Zune?

This is a col hack. But I have a question: Is there any way to revert the changes made by the registry files?
