Wow! I just recently zuneboards, and I'm getting tons on information and new hacks that microsoft should have included into zune in the first place.
Do you guys perhaps now how to convert microsoft zune into a mass storage device without using zune software? I find it difficult to input files and music through the zune software. I sometimes copy stuff from my friend's pc who don't have a zune.
Thanks. If ever I failed to see this link in the forum or some other link in this website, kindly point me to the right direction.
I get errors as well whenever I try to convert avi files...
won't even convert the avi files from my camera. =(
it kinda sucks seeing all this stuff on my zune software that I can't play, starting to regret installing it.
It was a great hack though, just has a few bugs in it methinks.
hey pity! i think u made a great job here, thanks for sharing it. I won't complain and say your mod sucks because i really appreciate someone cares about us, the amateurs with these topics.
Anyway, i have that problem with "error" message on certain movie files, what can we do man?
A basic one: some movies i have, when i transfered them to the zune, they look like widescreen but very little, what can i do to make a good use of all the zune screen? shall i download specific video formats? can i change the format of these small-screen videos to make them bigger in the zune? thanks dude
Okay, here is a possible fix for everyone who is having problems with this hack (which I think is due to differing extension handlers).
What To Do:
Go to Start, Run, and the type in 'regedit'
Now, go to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\MediaPlayer\ Player\Extensions, right click on it, and select 'Export'
Now, go and find the .reg file that you just exported, right click on it, and select 'Edit'
Notepad should have opened the file. Now go to Edit>Replace
Tell it to look for 'MediaPlayer' and replace it with 'Zune' Say 'Replace All'
When your done with that, just go to File>Save. Now just double-click on the newly edited .reg file and it will be added to your registry with all of the correct extension handlers (assuming your version of WMP11 plays all of your files fine).
Please leave feedback to tell me whete or not this works. Theoretically, this will not only solve your problems, it will also increase your number of supported file types.
Now, to adress everyone's individual questions. First up is:

You are stupid my friend
If you can just go ahead and read the first post for me, you will notice that I said that this will make it so that you can manually open .png's from within the Zune program, but for some reason, it won't add them to the library or sync them. Nothing I can do about it

Me neither, especially since this hack works perfectly for me.

The fix listed above should fix any errors you were previously getting.

To get the widescreen movies to look bigger on the Zune, you would have to use third party software to cahnge you movie from the EXTREME widescreen it's in now to a more comfortable size. I think the video size that looks best on the Zune is 4:3, but that's just me.
Also, all problems should be fixed with the hack listed above.
I have an idea of why some of your guys's .avi files dont work.
Its because they were encoded in a different format than the zune/wmp player can decode and convert.
In other word you will need a third party converter for these files.
if it can play on their computer with out them having to DL another pack its fine. i think that it might be the location in the .dll file. have you tried something like -736?
ill look at some of it. and sorry about the previous posts. i was being a jerk off.
and i dont think the image files were put in correctly.
EDIT: No, the location wasnt it. it still doesnt work. im gonna look into it.

Hi Everyone,
I just got my Zune today! I applied the multi-extension mod and now I see my dvr-ms files (I recorded TV shows using Windows MCE) in the Zune program. So now I'm converting/syncing a TV show to the Zune and the progress seems to be going very slowly. This is to be expected, right? The dvr-ms file is about 3.6GB. Thanks for your help.
Hack now upgraded to 'BETA' version. Possible fix for the experienced problems is now posted below the general info.
This is a mod made so that the Zune program will support more types of video, audio, and image extensions. So far, it's working like a charm. Here is exactly what it does:
What is the benefit of this since the program won't play most of the files?
Well, this makes it that even though the program won't play the files, it can and will easily convert them for use on you Zune. This will save you the time and hassle of having to download any third-party software to listen to your songs, watch movies, etc. etc. on your Zune. Also, it will make it so that the files are automatically converted to the exact specifications used on the Zune device, so no guesswork involved. It also adds the songs and movies to your library.
To Install
To install this mod, just download this .zip file, extract it's contents (which are two .reg files) and double click on them (1 & 2).
Feel free to ask questions and leave feedback as this mod is not fully completed yet (it can handle MANY more extensions) and because the walkthrough is not as thorough as I would have liked it to be.

CRAP!!! Now this, kids, is when your moderation powers you intended for good, turn against you. Sorry, Pity, I totally meant to quote you, but the stupid forums thought I pressed the "Edit" button instead. My bad .

[QUOTE][Yeah, it's going to take a while... 3.5 GB is friggin HUGE man! What did you record? The entire history of planet Earth? /QUOTE]
It was an episode of Grey's Anatomy which sucessfully converted and synced. I don't know how long it actually took since I just let it go overnight. Suffice it to say that you wouldn't do the conversion if you were in a hurry to go somewhere with your Zune! I was curious to know what the converted file size was...where do I find that? Can you navigate somewhere to show file properties on the Zune? Thanks.

If you use the hardrive hack you can see the video on your Zune and view its properties. It should be in the Videos folder. Easy to find. You can also take it off of your Zune and save it seperately so you don't have to worry about converting it again.
On a side note, if you want your movies to convert more efficiently, just open your Zune program and leave it running idle for a few minutes. It will begin to convert all of your movies/songs/pictures so they are ready for when you want to sync next. I found this out by complete accident : p

hi all. new to this site. its a great site for zune owners.
so im trying out this hack. did everything posted. the zune software can see my .avi file. but it says its 0 seconds long. the zune software wont play it back, and when i go to sync, it hangs at 0%.
windows xp, mp11-which plays back everything fine. geforce agp card, pci sound card.
any suggestions? id love to see this work for me. its such a handy hack!
Didn't work for me with Divx files. Worked with an .avi file I created myself with generic Directshow codec, but nothing else. I can imagine it works fine with .mpg but just not with 3rd party software encoded files.
