wait so this will convert them in the same way the zune software " converts" mpeg4 and h.264 files? It won't really convert them, just transcode them to transfer to the zune? I would rather convert them all to WMV permanently, so I don't have to keep reconverting it everytime I try and take it off and put it back on. =( Oh well, thanks anyways, it is still a cool and useful mod.

im running windows vista ultimate and have intel 945g embeded graphics and embeded audio, i also have firmware version 1.3 for the zune do you think that can be the problem?
|
The Vista part may be a problem. Do you have K-Lite codecs installed?
I'm pretty sure embedded graphics and audio are ruled out as the source of the problem because I'm using this hack on my lappie and it works fine.

Ah! But woody, you are missing one important piece of the puzzle! If you use the Zune hard drive hack, you can pull your converted files off of your Zune and replace the ones on your PC! Genius! I think the Zune program keeps a cache of converted files, too, but don't quote me on it.

didn't work for me.
I can "see" the files...they show up in my Zune software...But I cant sync them to my zune...
I tried mpeg and avi videos...nothing sync'd.
My zune has 1.3 firmware, and I'm running Vista Home Premium...and I dont have that codec pack..."K"...or whatever it was called.

I can convert mpg files using this mod but I can't convert avi (with XVID codec) files...anyone know why this may be?

Im having the same damn problem. I can see the xvid codec try to start up but it never quits out and i get the error message. Something else thats been bothering me, i converted a bunch of shows using a wmv converter but for some reason it re-transcodes the videos when i try and transfer them, and the sune software is messing with the audio, creating an echo, any suggestions?

Even after i reformated and used a different codec pack the avi file still gives me an error. Also would it affect the mod if i changed the directories to F: instead of C:?

Well i have been having the same kinda problems.
Its kinda a hit or miss thing with my Zune. Some file convert well, others... alittle wierd, and others ERROR!
On the bright side. If for some reason 90% of your files break on you there is a way to get them on your Zune Regardless of its format. Although as i speak I am working on this, it is rather simple. Open your Windows Movie maker, import the video file, then save/export it to WMV. Now whether or not there is more converting after that *shrugs* beats me. But If anyone is on I will edit my post as I progress through this annoying process.

P.S. Only the Video formats that are defined in the hack will work with this as well. Avi, mpeg...etc etc

I've seen a few "What to do" type questions, so I created a self installer.
Download and run it

FWIW, I installed it on a Vista box and it worked beautifully with DVR-MS files. Sooooo happy!

Well converting it through the Windows Movie maker does work, and most of the files go right into the zune.
Its just long process. And really annoying. 3rd party programs will do a much better job
