Default I did the zalternator thing but

when i try to sync my songs to WMP 11 it says windows Media Player cannot access the file. The file might be in use, you might not have access to the computer where the file is stored, or your proxy settings might not be correct.

What does this mean.

have you started the syncing inside the zune program then end the zune process before starting with WMP11?

You need to unlock the device first.

i did unlock. When you unlock it it's the button on top of the zune right. My zune shows up on WMP 11, but it won't let me synce the songs.

I believe, "unlock" means in this case "use the unlock procedure" ( see same page where you downloaded the zAltinator) to unlock the Zune from the Zune Software before you start using something else. Not the unlock button on the Zune device.

I might be wrong, but that's how I understood it.

No, it is starting the sync in the Zune Software and ending the process.

Well, i can understand why the op got confused. Unlock is a confusing term to use for the "unlock procedure" since there is that little switch on top with a picture of a lock. But then again, I don't know what I would call it otherwise.

I have gotten this to work one time, but then after disconnect i get the error that he is getting. If i redo the entire process it works until disconnect. DO i have to do this every time i want to sync files with WMP?

LOL... It is true that you cannot sync when the zune is "locked" as in the little button.

1. Connect your Zune to your PC.
2. Start up Zune Software 2.0
3. Sync a file to it
4. STOP the sync
5. Open up zAlternator and change the Zune's Service Provider to MediaMonkey or WMP 11, or Winamp.

That is unlocking it, my friend.

So then do I have to unlock it every time i disconnect. Thats all I want to know, cause thats how it is for me and i just didn't know if thats how its supposed to work. Its like mine doesn't stay "unlocked".

I think you unlock it again after a restart, not disconnect. But I don't use it, so I'm not sure. I just think that, from other posts I've read.

Number 4 is wrong, it should be:
4. Open up the task manager and end zune.exe.

Its like the blind leading the blind.

Sad really. 90% of people don't understand how this works at all. Funny, in a very lose-all-hope-in-humanity kind of way.

It'd be easier if the just followed the tutorial but people tend to make things harder then they really are
