Hey, me too! It would be great to get this fixed. Wow, this stupid Zune has been soooo problematic. I'll probably just sell it for an iPod..Darn, I wish I could actually use the freaking thing.
Edit: Forgot, now I can't even sync with Zune, wmp11 or anything. Its a useless blob of buggy, ******ed machinery fit to have gasoline poured over, which is about what my frustration level.
I can't get it to recognize with anything. I think I unlocked it successfully because the Zune software won't recognize it.
I ran everything as administrator just in case...but to no avail.
---
NVM I got it. But now when I click FINISH to renaming the Device in WMP it gives me this.
"Windows Media Player cannot access the file. The file might be in use, you might not have access to the computer where the file is stored, or your proxy settings might not be correct."
It has the same name already there from the Zune software, and that's how I'm leaving it.
---
& When I click cancel and try to sync it gives me the same message. It gives me this error code: C00D11D2
I have figured it out you pretty much have to sync something longer than one song because the Zune program can upload it to the Zune too quickly start to upload a movie to the Zune and then follow the rest of the instructions. PityOnU...thanx you are Zune royalty! This is awesome...
Just tried it out with my Z80 and MediaMonkey 3. While I can play random tracks from the Zune, the tracks listed per folder (under Music, for example) are far from accurate. An excellent start, however, and hope to see more updates soon!
Gregory, i am very thankful for your patience and knowledge in this issue. You single-handedly saved my zune from a toaster oven and possibly a horrible accident involving gasoline. So, thank you very, very much.

Only if the software you are syncing with has a built in converter.

I run a legal copy of Windows Vista Home Premium, using the lastest version of Windows Media Player, and the latest version of the Zune software. I also have the latest firmware on my Zune.
I cannot change the sync settings, but I can send songs to my Zune, without error.
Thank you! I'll be staying tuned for more updates.
I am having the same problem as LancerRevolution... I open the zune program, start my zune synching, force it to close in the middle of the sync, but then when I go to the zAlternator it wont switch from the Zune program to General WMP
Is there something I am doing wrong or something more I need to do?
Or even better, is there a way for me to just use the version 1 Zune software other than the ver. 2 crap?
Same as above. You do not need to unlock the device to see it in other programs, you need to unlock it to sync with it. Try unlocking it, disconnecting it, and then hooking it back up. You'll see what I mean.
Yep.. I see what you mean. Thanks for the clarification.
Perhaps something to think about for a future modification or addition to this tool... maybe a monitor/launcher....
User starts the launcher (a new tool that can be configured to start a particular .exe)... launcher checks the running processes for zune.exe and if it finds it then kill it when it starts the sync thread, then launch the specified .exe.
For everyone who is getting the "cannot access file on device" error:
Your Zune has not been properly unlocked. Try syncing a video to your Zune instead of a song or a picture and stopping the sync then.
For everyone who is getting the "my current service provider will not change when I click apply error" (Lancer and whoever else that was):
The program cannot access your registry. Make sure you have administrator privaledges, and if you are running Vista, right-click the program and choose "Run as Administrator"
Thankfully I have yet to hear of any errors in the program (I think). I'll be working on iTunes support this week. I just have to get over my friends house to experiment with his registry a little.

Plz try the above...I think this might work for you...and make sure you have WMP11
