I can't seem to get this to work. I unlocked my zune manually like the instructions say, and the zune remains in the "syncing" mode after i exit the program. Then once I open up zAlternator, select my firmware, and proceed to the page where I can choose the service provider, nothing changes. If I move it to select ipod or generic WPD, once I press apply that bar just changes back to Zune (Default) and my current service provider also remains at Zune (Default). Nothing changes! Any way I can fix this? I'm running the newer zune software on windows vista with the 30GB zune. I applied the Zune as a Portable HDD hack too, and that part works. Thanks in advance for the help!

Are you running an 64 bit OS? If you're running Vista, you'll need to right click and allow it to run as administrator.

Aha! That was it, but now that I have it changed on zAlternator, it doesn't show up in iTunes when I open it up... Maybe I'll just go to a different media program until the iTunes part is worked out.

yes, i did. the problem now is i cant drag the video to my zune, it says no zune device is detected and requires me to upgrade my FW...

I've got the same problem I'm reading here a lot too:

- tried zalternator with my Zune 80 (firmware 2.3)
- have windows vista home premium
- have WMP11
- did the HDD hack
- changed succesfully to 'generic WPD'
- it shows up in WMP11, MM and Winamp

the only thing is:
I can't sync to it!
in WMP11 I get this error when I try to sync something:

how to fix this??

That means you didn't end the process during a sync. The unlocking failed

i can see my zune in mediamonkey and i can send files to it too (it says copying at the right bottom exactly like what the intrusion says) , however, when i unplug my zune from my computer, the files are just not there.

does that mean zAlt doesnt work for FW1.4? or i did not do it in the right way...

hmmz ok,
I did however sync (a couple of songs) to my zune, then pressed CTRL+ALT+DEL and shut down the zune sofware and then apply the zAlternator..

so I should sync a video, then shut down the zune software while syncing and then apply the zAlternator??

Hey gang. I've been using and enjoying zAlt with WMP11 for a bit now but I've noticed that if I sync a song, album, etc that I've forgotten and synced already that WMP doesn't seem to recognize that the information is on the device and will duplicate the files.

This occurs even though clicking on my Zune in WMP *will* show the complete list of of what's on the device. Weird. I'm not blaming this on zAlt but I am wondering if anyone else has had the same problem... and if there's anything I can do about it.

This concept is wonderful. I'm not too fond of the 2.3 firmware and know my way around WMP 11 much better. However, I've followed all the steps and even got the player to sync. But after syncing 1800 songs and taking up 5 or 6gb of space, all the songs disappear after disconnecting. The oddest part is, the space taken by the music is still in use. Help would be greatly appreciated.

I Need Help

The Mod use to work until Zune came out with a new firmware update about 4 weeks ago.

Then what happens is I do this.

Use Zunes Program to start sync. Then End the process. So the screen still says Syncing

Then open Zalternator, choose firmware 2.3

Then once I switch to Generic WPD. The Zune goes out of the sync screen. It goes right to " Connected " and then to the Zunes Main Panel. ( Music Videos etc )

Whats wrong?

Sounds like your computer is resetting the USB connection hen you swap the service provider.

What OS are you running? Never seen anything like that before...
