Ok so the syncing worked. I'm able to write and stuff to the HD. I am wondering if it would be possible to make a hack to sync to the zune that is not as bulky and one can carry on a flash to make the zune more of a portable HD. Or perhaps a program that can emulate the sync processs.

The zune HD hack will not work on firmware v2.3. I had it working on firmware v.2.2. After the update a day ago, the 2 icons in explore disappeared. When I used "Zunesuite", everything says "Error: Access is Denied". I've varified this with 3 of my computers. They had the same result.

The Hard drive hack is working fine, the only problem is the icon for the zune under my computer! it looks like some kind of wierd 3rd party mp3 player. any one know why this is?

yes... that's the normal icon for MTP-devices (/daps) in windows..
is it true that hd hack wont work on v2.3 firmware? i havent used it before and i'm getting a "Patch failed. contact zuneboards for help" error. any ideas?
I want to use my zune with the USB port in my Car Stereo. Car Stereo works with iPod, Zen, etc ... not with Zune. Documentation says that MP3 player must be able to be recognized as a Hard Drive. Will HD Hack make this possible?
To continue from my last post if you remember i unpatched it with the program berdon made, and everything was back to normal, so from there i decided to go in and change it manually in regedit.
I searched for the "PortableDeviceNameSpaceExclude" in HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINESystemControlSet001EnumUSB and changed the values as follows:
EnableLegacySupport to 1
PortableDeviceNameSpaceExcludeFromShell to 0
ShowInShell to 1
then after you do that hit F3 to go to the next find and keep chaning them until it says it cant find any more. Shouldnt be more then two if you only have one zune, i had to change 4 of them.
Even though i get the two icon's in explorer i dont care atleast it works now. Im sure berdon will be able to incorporate this into his program somehow though to make it easier for you guys.

I got it to work.
I think there should be some instructions on the hd hack page telling how to "unlock" the device.
I just happened to see how to do it on the zAlternator thread.
The HD hack does work on firmware 2.3, and files can be copied from the Zune via Windows Explorer. I have not tried using the "start Sync" method to copy files onto the Zune, so I don't know if that works yet.
Also there is another registry hack to remove the second Zune icon that works.
I know this may not be of any help to you, I think you would like to know that m$ knows about the HD hack and they are constantly trying to stop it. If you want it to work, then don't update your Zune software. Also, it is harder for the hack to work in Vista because Vista has more security measures in place for that kind of stuff.
