I just recently bought the Zune and am somewhat unimpressed. There are features from my 3 year old creative player that the Zune does not do like delete items from device, bookmark podcasts, browse device from Microsoft explorer, etc... Microsoft doesn't seem to have many firmware updates to update the functionality. If they are going to try and take on iPod then they need to be innovative with the design and features instead of being the opposite and being behind old players.
Why doesn't Microsoft try to marry the Zune to the 360 or Windows Vista and have features like what Sony has done with the PS3 and PSP. I would think it could help bolster sales with the Zune. Use the wifi on the device and see your friends online, download music from your PC without having to attach it, have podcasts available to download off the Zune marketplace, download movies off 360 marketplace and put on your Zune.
Come on Microsoft and get off your ass. Didn't JJ Allard leave his Xbox post to work on the Zune. I think they did a good job with some of the innovations they have done with the consoles but so far the Zune seems to be forgotten after it's initial release.
Um you shouldn't flame the zune here thats wht there is a flame board and don't come to a zune forum just to complian about it we all know it has it downsides but it has the potential to be a great device. Just wait it hasn;t even been a year since it came out.
Also, remember - its supposed to be a PORTABLE MEDIA PLAYER, not a mini computer.
And think about it - if it was connected to your computer or 360, and could show which friends were online.. couldn't you just do that on the 360 or PC with about 2 clicks? (Well, 360 is about 4...)
Don't get me wrong. I just find it strange that some of the basic things my creative player did cannot be done on the Zune. The reason I bought the Zune was because of the potential. It has been almost a year and I have not seen much improvements from the firmware updates. If you look at the Xbox 360 it has two updates a year and both have substantial features.

Wow I agree. Give it sometime. I prefer the zune over the Ipod any day. Don't worry Microsoft is working on improving the Zune. Summa Down now!

PSP and PS3 has some great cross functionality which I believe will allow the sales between the two feed off of each other.
Some integration between the Zune and the 360 could only be a good thing.. There is over 10 million Xbox 360s and that number will grow especially with Halo 3 coming out. If they could tie the Zune in and allow marketplace movies and shows to be downloaded to the Zune, it would be a great feature to market for both devices. Obviously Microsoft gets this to some degree since they came out with a Halo 3 Zune. Now they need to come out with some features to keep the momentum going.
As for the friends online, not a must have but I have seen it on multiple gaming forums.
As for the Portable Media Player, the device should not rely solely on this piece. How many portable media players are there out on the market? They need things to distinguish themselves. My old creative player that I got two years ago had FM radio, portable storage, voice recording, custom eq, and syncs with Microsoft Outlook contacts, calendar & tasks.

Do you think JJ Allard would be the best contact? I'm going up there Monday to pitch my ideas about the Xbox 360 and Vista. I guess I could add a day to my trip to go over the Zune and what Micosoft has plans for with the Media Player.
Well first off Gar, you're comparing apples to oranges.
You can't compare the functionality of Zune to 360 to that of PSP to PS3.
Zune is a Media Player...not a gaming device like PSP.
I'm thinking you're expecting too much. Face it, the 1st Gen Zune was built by a 3rd party (Toshiba) and has its limitations, but does its job very well. We're all looking forward to the 2nd Gen and improvements. This holiday season looks to be quite exciting with new firmware updates to expand the Zune's functionality without leaving us 1st gen Zuners out in the dark (they'll be available to us also)
OH and zunemaster959 gets his wish...moved to flameboard

Microsoft wants to keep everything in it's own distinct category. Zune is for portable media, Xbox is for games. They've made it clear that they don't want to just make every one of their products the same.
And as far as the updates go, shut up. iPod hasn't had an update for longer than the Zune. Their update is a new gen of hardware. Zune is going to have updates, be patient and stop the bitching and moaning.

What the hell are you talking about? I'm not talking about making the Zune a gaming product. I'm saying that Xbox 360 has a great service to download VIDEOS called Marketplace. I would think you were familiar with it considering your gamertag. The Zune has a great video playback. Until Microsoft can figure out what the hell they are doing with the Zune software, they should use other available resources.

What the **** are you talking about here? It's widely known that Microsoft is coming out with new gens of the Zune. The Zune has been out for a year and they have had 4 awesome updates. Look at all that great functionality that has been added. Oooh Random play seems to work better now.

The functionality of the PSP to PS3 that I was referring to was on the multimedia aspect.
Remote Play enables the two devices to connect to each other, one serving as a media hub and the other as a portable viewer. Users can now store their music, pictures and video content on their PlayStation 3 console, and access it remotely with their PSP wherever and whenever it is connected to an adequate Internet connection.

I honestly think MS will forget us first gen zunes. They promised us features with the firmware but we haven't seen any and its almost been a year since it has been out. But i did hear that the zune had some hidden features locked up and that couldn't be used yet...so that means something. BUt my best bet is that we'll have to wait. Don't worry...sooner or later MS will throw us some good firmware updates...hopefully.
