Actually, I installed Linux and it just worked for me. I'm just glad though that I don't have to upgrade my computer for each new version of the OS like you do for Windows, and that my files are mine and that there isn't any backdoor for the NSA to use to get into my computer.

But seriously, let's stop with this "It just works." We're sounding more and more like Mac users..

Hey, Mac just works too. It just does stuff differently that quite a lot of people isn't used to do.

I had to upgrade my computer in order to install Ubuntu 7.04. But i chose not do and I went with windows xp (jack's edition) route.

BTW, Lax and I never got pwned. We always pwned you.

wtf are you talking about i put Ubuntu 7.04 on a P3 600 MHZ, with 256k ram, and a nVidia GForce 2 card ovb i didnt use any of the compiz addins but it worked just fine...

Linux is amazing the stuff people are doing with it is amazing. the problems are its not compatable with a lot of things. and two people are too F***ing retarded to know how to use a command line, even though its generally F***ing copy paste.

At least with linux you dont get a OEM disks that are full of so much S*** its scary. I have an HP laptop love it! clean install with Vista i am at 51 % ram useage ( 2 gigs of ram) Ubuntu i am running around 30% ram with CompizFusion running...

Both os's have pros ( Ubuntu good resource management, Windows Compatable and user friendly) and their cons ( Ubuntu has a learning curve, Windows has S***y resource management.

and FYI windows doesnt "Just Work" out of the box... if it did i wouldnt have driver CD's .... if you want out of the box go for Mac, but those are really just for retards that dont kno how to use a comp

I have intel celeron 666mhz (pentium II level) + nvidia tnt 2 with 16mb of g-ram + 96mb sdram. Beforce 2 is probably 10x better than vidia tnt2 which I think was released in 1999.

BTw.. have you tried turning off super fetch? If you did that, it'll use less ram than ubuntu. When superfetch is turned on, it loads frequently used program god knows how many times faster.

Also, Lacross, Gow, and I have ll used linux before. I started using Ubuntu since I was 10.

Also, I do use OEM disk. I always mod windows to suit what I need. All the drivers, updates, softwares, drivers, games and everything will be prepackaged.

BTW, windows XP uses much less ram than Ubuntu. My customized windows xp idles with 64MB~ of ram ussage. Ubuntu 7.04 will require at least 384MB to run live CD and 256~MB to install.

i dunno other than compatibility i have never had a problem with Ubuntu and when i make a comparison i am talking about out of the box. the average user does not mod their computer to use 64 mb of ram

Why not just have both? That's what I say. Both have pros and cons, so just run both on their own partitions. For the computer challenged, Wubi allows you to do so by just clicking a couple times, no stress at all. And better yet, it allows Linux to be uninstalled from Windows as well. So, I fail to see why people bicker over two things which really ought to go together anyway.

But really. I don't get it. What did I ever do to you and Lacrosse? It seems as though out of nowhere, you two are trying to make fun of me. You forget you can't make fun of me outside of the flameboard, and the ONLY thing I'll have to do is ignore you, leave the flame board, or not look at posts about operating systems.
