He is one of the best of all time. A true talent, great man, legend, and one of the best and most important voices ever in music no matter what anyone accuses him of. R.I.P. Michael. You will be missed.
I can't say that I'm all that surprised. I suspect the stress of his upcoming comeback tour played a major role. Plus, one wonders if he was abusing his insides as badly as he abused the exterior.
As for his musical legacy... let's just say that I was never a big fan. I think he was very talented in his early years, and obviously "Thriller" was a major success. But, he was never able to re-attain that success, or evolve past it.
You know it is the most bizarre thing. Around 2 or 3 (when he was dying) I was listening to Eazy-E which provoked thoughts of people in music who left way too early (Eazy, Kurt Cobain, Tupac, B.I.G., Lennon, Elvis) and I was sitting there thinking '"We almost lost Eminem and I sure hope Michael doesn't take his life for all of the **** he goes through." and then and hour or so later somebody calls my mom to tell her Michael died. I mean, he's one of the biggest and most significant musical influences of all time. You don't expect him to just be gone one day.

Exactly right, when i heard he passed away i couldn't believe it, it took hours to sink in. He's was just one of those people so influential, you can not possibly expect him to die.
I love MJ's music and his smooth dance mooves, may his legacy as the world's greatest pop star forever live on.
