Default <!> [G] Acceleroid v1.1

HOTFIX for V1.1

Changes:
- Your ship should not explode without any obvious reason anymore.
- Starting score set to 0 instead of 1000.


Update to 1.1

Changes:
- Reduced tilt sensitivity
- Options Screen added, which lets you set Musicvolume, Soundvolume, Shooting control and Paddle control.
- Shooting controls that are available: Shoot by tapping on the Zunes border or shoot by tapping the onscreen button in the lower right corner
- Paddle controls that are available: Tilt the Zune to change paddles speed, Tilt the Zune to change paddles position (similar to Audiosurf)
- You can enter the options screen by tapping the play symbol in the top left corner during gameplay.
- entering the options screen pauses the game
- You close the options screen by pressing the same region (which shows a pause symbol then)
- Options are saved and will be loaded the next time you start the game again




Here is a game I made in about 6 days in total. It started as an excercise to get used to the new input API of the ZuneHD. When it reached a certain status I decided to make a complete game out of it that I can share with you.

So here it is:

The game is a mix of classic Breakout and Space Invaders.
I use the accelerometer to steer the ship and I was wondering about a good input for firing. So I spend a bit time and developed a technique I am a bit proud of because I think it feels really cool and adds a lot to gameplay.
To fire (you can only fire if you have ammo), you need to tap on the border of the ZuneHD. But not on screen... hit the Zune with your finger and the ship will shoot. Try it! It works like an invisible Shoulder button.

Ok, whats the task? Stay alive as long as possible and get a new highscore.

The bricks move down, and from level to level they will move faster. Hit the bricks with balls or shoot them to get rid of them and earn points.

Everytime you hit a brick with the ball, you get one additional bullet you can shoot with.

Sometimes when the bricks break, they spawn extras. Here is a list of the extras, that are available:

- Extralife
- Move bricks up a bit
- Grenade addon (turns the ball in a grenade. When it hits a brick, it causes an explosion that hits bricks in a radius, too)
- Rocket addon (turns the ball into a rocket. It will destroy every brick at once on its way without bouncing back)
- Multiball (this will spawn an additional ball. The amount of simultanous balls is not limited)
- Glue & Ammo (ball will stick to the paddle and adds 20 ammo)
- Smartbomb (destroys all bricks on screen)

You win for the longest downloading and unpacking I have ever seen.It took like 5 minutes to get it on my Zune. This is the best 3rd party game I have ever seen how did you get the firing to work that is just completely amazing!!! I love the high score thing I love the powerups, It is amazing you should be paid for these kind of things.
There is only one suggestion I have, Is there any way to Make the tilt less sensitive, It is just to hard to keep it where you want it.

I don't have a ZHD yet so I'm unable to test this, but if it's anything like your past work I can imagine it won't disappoint. The tap-to-fire is also a cool idea, though I'm not sure if this is the best application for it (haven't played so I don't know how it works out in practice).

Thank you very much

Sure, its just a variable I need to tweak and its less sensitive. But believe me, you get used to it and if its too slow you want it faster later on
I will release the sourcecode in the next days anyway, so you "could" change things yourself if you don't like them.

The firing thing is simple once I got the idea... its just some kind of "vibration" I check with the acceleromter. You can hit the device anywhere or even shake it and your ship will shoot. But if you use the finger like tapping on a trigger it feels cool with the game

Can I suggest the movement be changed more like audiosurf instead of acceleration based? It gives way more control that way

I think the idea is to numerically integrate the accelerometer readings so that it reacts to the orientation of the Zune rather than its movement.

Awesome game; love it~!

My only suggestion is maybe add an option to switch the tilt sensor to a more "Audiosurf" style, where the location of the paddle is relative to the amount of tilt, instead of the speed of the paddles movement relative to the amount of tilt.

Your games never fail to impress! Everything looks great, works great, and I do like the controls.

A few things I would like to see added/changed.

First, the sensitivity DEFINITELY needs to go down, or have an adjustment of some sort.

Second, the "shoulder button" concept is VERY nice! But I noticed if you (assuming the Zune is parallel to the ground) move it up and down (screen towards/away from you) it fires too. That could be problematic for, say, bumpy car rides. So perhaps an option to select the invisible shoulder button to fire, or just continue using the button in the lower right corner to fire the gun as well as launch the ball? Maybe even a new button completely as an option?

Just a few observations.

Overall, this game is impressive, glad to have you programming for the HD!

I cant download the game...i think the link is broken

EDIT: It works but I had to open it up in Internet Explorer instead of Firefox for some reason. When I opened it in firefox it just gives me a link to #%^$ and such characters. But using internet Explorer works.....didnt know that browser was good for anything

EDIT EDIT: I tested the game and I really like it. The only problem is the sensitivity...so I would agree with al the others to make an option to decrease or increase it or something along those lines. I also agree on the fact to include an option where you can choose how to fire your weapons because when I tilit too much the weapon fires for me. But great games as always.
