What you're doing is perfectly acceptable.

However, you should try and get the author to switch GUIDs; multiple variations of a game having the same GUID gets really irritating really fast.

ive done that, and i have the file with a different guid. im not sure if i did it right. all i did was change the first number, which i recall being a 5 and switched it to a six. it worked, and the game is completely functional. but i cant communicate directly with the creator, unless i register as a CodePlex user. i'd be happy to send anyone the changed file, though.

Make the modification and upload both the source and a .ccgame file, linked from the OP. Indicate that the modified version is covered under the MS-PL.
