Cannon Game

Dogface

Version: 2.something

A simple 2D cannon game based off of Riemer's 2D tutorial.
The main thing about the Game is that it allows you to play with a few of your friends without having to have more than one Zune. This is good since there aren't many Zunes around . Some things That have changed from the Beta are that I have added an options menu to change the number of players and the effect of gravity. To update the actual p[layer count change it in the options menu then hit reset in the main menu. Also I have made the cannon ball movement much much smoother most of the time. the exceptions are when the ball goes through a hole that has been created in the map and when it gets very close to a cannon. The game should work on all Zunes and is 3.0 compatible.
The current player is indicated by the color of the hud text.
Controls:
Rotate cannon: Left and Right buttons
Increase/Decrease power: Up and Down buttons
Fire: Center button
Menu: Back
Menu select: Center button
Note: It can take it a few minutes to unpack because some of the images are large.

Congrats on making the game. I am DL'ing now and I will tell you what I think of it later. From the pictures I see the cannons look a bit close, but that might be because it is on the zune and it has to be that way. I hope to see you developing more games for the zune community!

Thanks for the game it's alot of fun, a guy I work with has a similar game on his itouch but really your game is more enjoyable because the itouch game doesn't take the wind or power into play but then again it may be because i'm a numbers geek. I noticed one problem when I started the game in the first screen the top cannon was out of the screen but that was the only time it happened.

I almost forgot it seems that the number of the winning cannon sometimes is off.

Glad to see all the positive feed back. first the off the screen issue just has to do with the random terrain generator and it not being very limited. Right now you can simply use reset and it will make a new map for you. If I make another release I will fix this. The winning cannon number is not corrected for human counting since it is taken directly out of the code in which player 1 is considered player 0, making player 4, player 3. that being said I will also correct this if there is another release which I most likely will make sooner or later adding in a few goodies for you guys. I just checked the download count and its up to 136 if it gets to 200 I will defiantly make another release.

can u make a 1 player version within the same game? if you look at NAME's player selection he made a number of human players and a number of AI players screens. if you can make it like that that would be awesome! keep up the good work and keep up the gravity code, makes the game more fun

it is a great game, it needs to have the computer option. it is kind of boring vs. yourself.

Cool. It's a neat little game, a lot like Artillery (an olllld game on the Commodore 64, but one of my favorites). A couple suggestions:
  • Make the cannons a little smaller
  • Make the terrain lower (not close to the top of the screen)
  • Have the cannon "take damage". Make them kinda like the land and have explosions slowly chip them away until there's nothing left
  • Make cannon explosions smaller
  • If possible, add a wireless 2-player mode

A.I. is some thing that I had wanted to do but it is a pain to write. Since it is being requested though I will do my best to make some. as for wifi multiplayer i'm not sure since I have no idea how to do it. If I can learn how to which shouldn't be hard I'll do it though it may be strange since I don't have another Zune to test it with. Also the download count is up to 206 so I'm going to for sure make another release at some piont. Thanks for all the support and suggestions.

This game is awesome, very addicting. But yeah, AI would really be a great addition. I've also noticed the wind is often really strong, so adding a feature to lower/raise the wind strength (just like the gravity) would be another great addition. Other than those two things, it's really a great game!
