I forget how many things I'm working on currently...
I'm going to make a nice general form of chess, one that should cover all bases. It'll have multiple chess sets/boards, have support for variants, have AI, do wireless, and do two players on one Zune. However like usual I need some help with graphics, especially since this'll need multiple sets and boards. Also if someone knows something about chess AIs, since I know nothing in terms of algorithms for chess AI...

Awesome. There are chess algorithms that are already made for C# that you could possibly use. I imagine it would be fairly difficult to write your own.

You know, with how much support I'm going to put in variants, this could probably support checkers...
The thing I'm looking at currently is the AI side. I found an engine in C# called SharpChess, which was discontinued and is nice and basic. I think I might email the author and see about being able to use it, once I try it out a little more to make sure it'll work

I could make some graphics for you.
Just tell me the dimensions of the parts you want me to make (board, pieces, background, etc.).

I haven't gotten that far honestly.
A rough estimation puts the board at somewhere around 200x200, which puts each square at 25x25, and each piece has to fit in there well. Each piece has to be a seperate part. For graphics I plan on a consistent naming system like "pawnblack.png" and "board.png" and "background.jpg" or something like that and each different style goes into its own directory and the directory name is the name of the file, so each directory gets listed in the "chose a board style screen" so everything needs to be consistent, board has to be the same size in every style and such. Honestly, I'd appreciate some general mock-ups if you will, I won't get to that part for a while.

Awesome man! I can't wait for Chess. Especially over wifi, this will be nice. Hehe, but how many projects do you have going now? I count at least 3.

Why not make the program support a number of board games as mentiones - Chess, Checkers, Backgammon and so on.
Chess is very difficult as the styles and moves are immense, while Checkers and Backgammon are less difficult from my point of view Chess - lots of moves, lots of types and styles of play. Checkers - not so much moves, but still a lot of them Backgammon - defined moves depending on the numbers you get, in my point of view only 3-4 styles of play and depending on luck and changing between these styles while playing. ![]() |

Well backgammon is pretty different from chess and checkers, and honestly I don't even know how to play backgammon

I'm working on a Backgammon game right now. I had to pull away from it for a bit to work on some other projects, but i should be able to get back into it soon. It's pretty close to an alpha or beta release though.

Oops, didn't see his post. I suck at them, and never understood backgammon but this could be great especially if someone decides to help him out with it.
