Exclamation Releasing Engines?

Okay... So I understand that it takes time to do games on your own, having to do everything yourself. But what I don't understand is why you do have to do it yourself. I'm not a programmer myself, my brother is so don't flame me for being "uneducated in this subject". But wouldn't it be easy for you programmers just to come up with some basic game engines to release for all the lazy programmers so that they can tear into those engines and mod them for they're own games. I know some of you people like to keep your programs to yourself so that it's unique... But it would cause alot of people to get off your back and it would overall help the gaming community.
Now so I do get moved, this isn't a request for a game per say, but more so a request for the whole Zune Gaming community, and as I think this would be the best possible place to post this...

Moved to Development Discussions.

Its not really easy to come up with engines.
Search this forum for Farseer Physics Engine. I recently ported that over to the zune, look at its code, not something many people would be able to do.

XNA in itself make programming a whole lot easier anyway.

Yes, XNA makes it incredibly easy to create games. It also takes quite a while to write engines. I'll see if I can understand the Farseer Physics Engine code.

What do you consider a "game engine"?

The XNA Game Studio is a framework that provides many features of a game engine as well.

So basically the basic game engine is already done by Microsoft. Its the game itself that needs to be done. What do you think would happen if e.g. someone makes a jump&run "game engine" with a sample game and puts it here for all the lazy programmers to make a game out of it? Maybe there would be 10 games in the end (though I doubt that even a single one would be really finished, polished etc) and they all will play like the other nine because all the lazy programmers did not make their own game but used the sample as a base and modified graphics and such stuff. Not a very cool experience, isn't it? Take a look at the "download 'completed' games" section. People make games and other people take this game and add their own graphics to it and open a new thread for that "new game"...

while engines are an entire beast the great thing about all this OOP stuff is that things are put into classes. it would be great to share different classes i think. i.e. intro class, menu class, control class,etc..

some task during programming become repetitive and so most people would just copy and paste stuff they did previously. heck i've always done it with php, actionscript, html, etc..
