Great stuff so far... a 3D software renderer is a cool thing, even if it "just" can draw lines... imagine games like the first Elite and such.... +Rep

Just a heads up, I am adding another youtube video to the front page. I feel it gives a better idea just what the engine can do! It will be there in a few minutes when it finishes processing. This was recorded on my computer using FRAPS. The FPS is higher than it runs on zune, but lower than it normally runs on comp due to the recording

I'm not good with programming but I'd like to think I'm good with photoshop, So if you need/want help with menus and such, I would LOVE to help.

Heh, glad to hear you are excited. Anyways, yea I like the menus, but I am actually planning on having just bots running behind the menus so it is animated with the camera static above (if it works out). So I am not thinking I would really need any gfx help. Thank you for the offer and if I do end up needing anything I would love the help.

Nice job. Not only is it an accomplishment in itself as a Proof-of-Concept, it's also(or will be) a fully playable game that actaully looks like it'll be alot of fun.

In the 2nd video, It looks like the only view that would work "and look good", would be the last view from the top. "The 2D sprites would look horrible if it was 1st person"
unless you make a new sprite for every angle...

Personally I enjoy all three viewpoints. Firstperson is more difficult (imo), 3rd person looks the coolest, overhead gives an oldschool/newschool kind of look.

As for the sprites, I am (as of right now) planning on doing it, as my friend likes to put it, Starcraft style. Different sprite for each angle(well each direction, not each smaller angle) and different sprites for each view. This might end up looking bad so I would have to try something else. Worst comes to worse the lines dont look to bad alone right? :P

And regarding the code. PM me if you want it. Right now I do not want it public yet.

Ok, I think I need to make a couple things totally clear right now. (if any of this comes across as rude I do not mean it to, I just woke up :P )

1. This is really early in development for the most part. To address your first point, the trail is erased when you hit your own or enemy's wall. If you hit the outside you stay fine. Why? Because this is in there to help me figure out glitches. In the final game it doesnt matter. You hit it, you die

2. I am not sure what you mean by perfectly straight. If you mean that the line looks bent sometimes it has nothing to do on my part. It is a combination of how we get the 3d points, how we draw lines, and how the grid can be drawn on any float (if you dont understand this it doesnt matter) whereas you can only draw points to int pixels.

3. This is kind of unimportant to the game right now. One day they might lower, but they might just dissapear. It doesnt matter. Right now I am focusing on getting the game to work, the AI decent, multiplayer working, and other things that are core to the game

Also to any who wants to make graphics for the game. Please talk to me first. I know people want to help out, but my friend and I have most of it under control (Unless you are an AI wiz, please talk to me!! :P).

Thanks for all the support guys, and once again I hope this isnt coming off the wrong way to anyone.

I need the people's opinion on where to go next. I have a basic AI in place (It would never really win), but it needs a lot of work to become a challenge. I personally the nature of this game lends more to a multiplayer experience, but most people don't even know other people with zunes, thus limiting the amount of fun they could have with the game.


So the question, which is more desired to you, better AI or Multiplayer? Both will come eventually, but im curious which I should focus more on. So if you could, let me know your opinion and why.

I am from germany and I can't play against someone else (because there are no Zunes here)

I think better AI is more importent,
Even if i knew people with zunes, I would still rather playing the AI.
But this will definetly make a Great multiplayer game.

a vote for AI. as Dino, I'm outside USA and can't use any multiplayer feature of the Zune games.
