Talking [In Progress]Donkey Kong Arcade

I was going through the Game Requests and I found that someone had requested a game like the original Donkey Kong for the Arcade, created by Nintendo. Seen as how I had just finished work on my Platform Engine for the Zune, I thought I might give it a try. I have all of the original sprites for the game, but I am in need of the sounds. If anybody has possession of or knows where I can find the sounds of the original Donkey Kong, please notify me. Also, the levels will most likely not be the same as the ones for the original, but I will most likely release a level editor, or make it easy to design your own levels for the game. I will try and post my progress as much as possible on the Zune Boards, or on my website (http://zbinc.spaces.live.com/). If anyone is interested in helping, I am having a little trouble with the slopes found in the original first level.

I'm going to go out on a limb here and say you'll catch the same flack that occurred in the Super Mario Brothers thread, so you might just want to save yourself the trouble and begin making your own sprites as opposed to using the Nintendo copyrighted ones. Not that I care, just saying I'm pretty sure this thread will go the same way. Look forward to seeing the progress though.

before you reach the 50% stage in development Billy Mitchell & Steve Wiebe will have already beaten it and both will claim the top score.

I thought DiNo's Running Man is already along these lines (though it uses different sprites, obviously).

Will this help for the sounds?
I'm not sure, but you can search here...

Default Thank You

Thank you for the sounds to everyone who posted links. The only reason I am using the Original DK sprites is because I am not the best at computer art. In the end I was going to see if I could find a legal remake or something similar to the DK sprites. If someone would be interested in making some sprites, whether they are close to DK sprites or not (just something that would fit), I would gladly except the help.

On the subject of copy written graphics, I was searching the boards when I came to this: http://www.zuneboards.com/forums/gam...hlight=pokemon . The guy who offered to make was also told about the copy written problem. If you scroll down far enough, he says he contacted Nintendo and it would be legal as long as he did this (I did a little spell check):

Quote:
It would work trust me I've contaced Nintendo. Just as long as the following happen.
1.You list them as having the (c)
2. You don't sell it.
3. It can't be used to make any profit.
4. You acknowledge that all characters and everything else dealing w/ the game except the code for the port is (c) the respective parties.
5. You list the original staff in the credits.
Would this actually work? Is he telling the truth?

I read that they might not respond to emails so best bet would be to call if you really want to continue with using their graphics

I guess I could give them a ring, but I am also starting to plan out my own graphics if all else fails. Also, if I created my own character and villain, I could probably do something along the lines of what Nintendo did and have like my own Mario, but not named Mario.....

EDIT:

Just called them, and they gave me that long list of "Press 1 for Wii Related Issues" etc, etc. Nothing along the lines of copyright issues though, so I guess I'll have to email them. I guess I might end up having to make my own graphics....

I know this doesn't matter but...

This was before Mario had his name, in Donkey Kong, his name is "Jumpman"

But anyways...
I hope this goes well
Looking forward to it

Nintendo will let you use their sprites, as they have always let me and my team use them for flash animations but it does take a long time to get their corporate office to give the go-ahead and you have to put a bunch of subscript with "Original Characters by Nintendo. Not an official Nintedo Lisenced" ect once you do get permission.

Ok, with all the legal information I've gathered so far, I can officially start working on putting together the game! Yeah!

EDIT

I am chosing to move all progress updates of this game to my site: http://zbinc.spaces.live.com. All comments directed at me on this post will be ignored, unless I'm telling you to move it to my site. If this is a problem to anybody, please tell me. Thank you.
