Default [IN PROGRESS] Graphing Calculator

I am going all out with this thing. This uses all new code, and is going to be a humongous effort. I currently am less than halfway through the math side and then I have to implement the GUI (which is going to take forever as there are so many different pages) and the graphing mechanism (should take a day).

For operators it will support:
"^", "/", "*", "%" (mod), "+", "-", ">", ">=", "<", "<=", "=", "!=", "~=" (approximately equal to), "&&", "||"

for functions it will have
"sqrt", "sin", "cos", "tan", "cot", "sec", "csc", "log", "ln", "asin", "ccos", "atan", "acsc", "asec", "acot", "abs", "floor", "ceiling", "ipart", "fpart", "torad", "todeg", "fact", "nPr", "nPr", "rand", "randInt", "toBin","not"

I plan on ultimately having multiple graphing modes beyond just plain functions, probably polar and parametrics, beyond that will be depending.

Honestly, this is going to take me a while to do as it's from scratch and will have a lot of features.

However, I have no plans on implementing a CAS, so its calculus abilities will be numeric at best. Numeric derivatives and integrals as well as hyperbolic functions will be maybe in a later release, but not in the initial release.

THe one thing I would appreciate is if someone wants to help me with making it look good, help me design a layout. PM me for details if you're good with GUI design and wanna help

Sounds awesome!! I could definitely use a graphing calculator for if I ever forget mine/lose it. Good luck!

draw a very quick mockup in mspaint, I'll give it shot. I just need to see how you want it done...

Edit: Heres a mockup I did for the calculator I was going to make, I personally really don't like how it turned out...

Haha, this is pretty cool! I'd have to see if I could get away with using my zune for math class then

I absolutely LOVE this idea. I agree that implementing a CAS would be difficult, but how about at least having some calculus operations on the graphs. Such as derivatives at a specific point or integrals over a range of area, min/max and such....

I have alot of experience with progrmming actual graphing calculators, like ti's.
so if you want any help with the calculator part, i'd be glad to help. i don't know how much i could do in the ways of graphic design, other than the key layout.

http://www.zuneboards.com/staff/Nurt...scientific.zip

Just to prove I am working on it, here's what I have done so far.

At this point it is mostly just a scientific calculator, the home screen works and the math works, Settings is there but I haven't figured out what settings to use yet so it's just default stuff.

I still have to do the actual graphing part, which should be relatively easy, however I spent about a day working on what turned out to need time travel the way I was doing it so yeah...

It'd be nice if you could fit all the functions that a TI graphing calculator had. It'd be a lot of extra work though but you could fit it all in by making a catalog menu like on the TI-89 where it lists all the functions.

I think a graphing calc sounds great for zune! It could make things easier when you need one! Good Luck!

I agree. This will be awesome when it is done.

a while ago i read a book that taught me how to make a calculator for windows.
Maybe I'll be able to help with coding but im not entirely sure. pm on what you still need to have done and i'll see what i can do.

Edit: it was a very simple calculator though but ill be glad to help in any way.

wooo

link

It graphs! However it is laggy, slow, and not all functions work fully. I gotta work out some problems with negative numbers, as I'm only using one -, hence I have to tell it to figure out that -3^2 is (0-3)^2 versus nothing minus 3^2.
