It depends on their extension. If they are the normal something.SpriteFont, then you can just open the project in XNA Studio and go to the Content folder find them and double click on them and they should open fine. If they are in the .xnb format (i did this in my Sleep Timer app, not many games/apps do this) then you have to find a decompiler because that file has already been compiled by XNA

You can't really decompile an xnb into a spritefont (it's just not possible), but you can create a new spritefont with the same settings and the same name, and it'll be a drop-in replacement for the xnb file.

and for .xnb file i need to find a decompiler. but its easier to just make another .xnb to replace the old one.

You can technically open a .spritefont file in any text editor (Notepad, Word, whatever). Just right click, go to Open With, and choose whatever text editor you want. All it is in there is some plain XML.

When you open the game up in Visual Studio, you can open the spritefont files. On the right side you have to find the Content node. In there somewhere will be the spritefont files. Just double click them to open them up.
