I'm just starting on an adventure game engine that should be usable to make games like Wizardry.
Since I don't have any XNA skills (yet), I am hoping to hook up with a seasoned XNA developer that I can hand a .net DLL to. The DLL will do the game logic and the developer only needs to handle the UI portion. Any takers? Release 1 of the game will be a demo of the map engine. I have the objects and map generator written. If I can find a capable XNA developer who can create a UI and the control logic, phase one can be a completely different game: Maze. The player would wander through a maze with a first person view. Using the map generator, user-submitted mazes could be easily added. Release 2 should allow a player to engage in battles with monsters placed throughout the maps. Release 3 will probably have inventory (weapons/armor). I'm trying not to think that far ahead right now. Entering dream mode, it's conceivable that it could be a multi-player dungeon, and the map generator will allow anyone to create their own complete adventure with their own maps, monsters, and inventory items. ![]() |

Current Status: I have the game maintenance application pretty much going. You can draw maps, create characters and place the characters in the map. You can save the map and reload it.
![]() The maintenance program also has a map test mode where you can browse through the map just created. This will generally mimic the navigation on the Zune, except instead of seeing the description is text, it will show corridors and walls. ![]() To complete phase one and turn it into a maze game, I guess I'll have to statr learning XNA (in C# of course). ![]() |

Another quick update. I translated the little test app for navigating a map into a graphical format similar to how it will look on the Zune.
![]() So far everything is in VB, so I'm really procrastinating on converting it to C#. I had another idea for a different UI using the map engine that might be interesting. That would work better for a maze puzzle than what I have right now. ![]() |

Well, its looking like an awesome game, assuming you find someone to help out. Unfortunately I know nothing about C#.. so i can't help. But good luck with it!

Good luck with the conversion!

As far as progress, I've decided I'm not going to release interim versions of this game as I go. I'm going to make it as complete as possible for the offical release of XNA on Zune (2008 holidays?). Shortly before, I'll probably get community involvement for level design and in-game graphics and we can all have a good game to play. I'll probably just do some blogging on progress as I go. BTW, the article makes me think of Qix. That could be a viable game on Zune. ![]() |

He'll release it when it's ready. Alot of work goes into creating a game like this, (any game for that matter) and he probably dosen't want people 'playing' with it untill it's in a more complete state. (That's what us cool kids call 'Beta')![]() |
