This is great. So many people have the problem of not being able to install the software, then just give up. Nice work!

Oh yeah I forgot to mention that this allows you to change the directory to which zune is installed. I'm not sure if the registry keys would change, however...

Im running a Zune - trying to get it working on a Danish Windows Vista Ultimate. But it DOES NOT WORK (Operating System not supported).

Will the installer make it work or have anyone tried this?

For your info - I used previously XP home (DK version) with a fix adding net localgroup USERS and INTERACTIVE...and that worked, but now nothing works.

You have to be on sp2 or later. Yeah I've been trying to get past that error, but no dice. Right now I'm working on another project so this one isn't quite finished yet.

Does anyone know how to install Zune on a computer without administrator privilages? I've got a roaming profile on my school computer (I have write access to my folder on the H:/ drive), but can't touch the C: drive or even look at it without using special tools. I can't modify the registry (hell, I can't even right-click most things, let alone open a run window or a command prompt). What I can do, however, is install things like Audacity Portable, GIMP Portable, and Firefox Portable (which I'm on now), so I know it should be possible Is there any way to bypass the restrictions?

EDIT: I did try installing using Marshillboy's msi package, but it gave me the generic error message:

"Zune Setup Wizard ended prematurely because of an error. Your system has not been modified. To install this program at a later time, run Setup Wizard again.

Click the Finish button to exit the Setup Wizard."

I'm pretty sure this is an MSI issue, as it typically means I don't have permission to install anything. Usually it will tell me that I don't have permission before attempting to install, which is why I'm a bit concerned. Marshillboy, is it possible for you to upload it as another type of setup file? (e.g. not msi, which I'm pretty sure the administrator policy prevents). And yes, I did attempt to install to my H:/ drive, as I can't put it anywhere else.

If you get errors, try doing this:

Make a .bat file (rename a .txt file to .bat)
Make the contents of the file look like this:

msiexec Zune.msi /j

Marshillboy: I attempted to run it with the /j switch, but I don't really see how that is supposed to change anything. According to MSDN, /j "[a]dvertises a product. This option ignores any property values entered on the command line." Did you mean to use some other option? As far as I can tell, this is kinda useless...

That said, I ran it through the command prompt:
H:\>Zune.msi /lpvx H:\log.txt
(download from http://www.speedyshare.com/577413725.html)

I see you said in another forum that it won't sync unless it's installed to C:\Program Files\Zune. Does this mean it won't install to another drive letter, or just not to one that isn't on the same volume as Windows? Looking over the logs, it seems it still keeps a good deal on C, before it moves back to my target dir, or not, depending on what it needs.

Anyways, thanks for creating this program, and thanks for helping me out numerous times before.

P.S. As I was going through the log, I noticed that it kept referencing a folder called ZuneSyncPlaylists in My Music (with a param in the install set to ObfuscatedPlayListFolder). Doing a little searching, I found a MS KB article on not being able to install to said directory, and referenced as products affected: "Zune Software" and "Zune Live" (yeah, we knew it was coming...). I'll definitely check out this folder when I get home. I've been meaning to find a way to differentiate the playlists I want just on my Zune and those I want just in my library (including auto sync playlists). We'll see.

*sigh* In the zune.msi, what the /j switch does is install the program without any excess guis or file checking or anything. It just installs the program using a stripped-down installer, and running it with /j might fix problems you encouter with the normal install. Trust me, I decompiled the msi and looked at it.

Heh, sorry for being an idiot. MSI isn't my forte.

I tried running it from the batch, but it flashed a command line window and then nothing else happened. I ran it from the command line with /j and it gave me the options menu, as I had mentioned. Wouldn't /q or /qn or /quiet do the same thing?
