How do you guys organize you music?
Personally i keep every thing in Folders According to artist then Album. So if i Run "Tree" On my music folder it would spit out something like this: Quote:
this doesn't bother me. At least it didn't till i got a player that is dependent on ID3 tags....:hang:I don't have a massive Music collection/ At its peak it was about 8,000 Mp3s But i know have about 1,800 (Hard drive failure) But I don't have the time to do all this one by one. Can any one Recommend some software that would help me clean this up a bit, But still retain my directory structure? |

What? You don't have ID3 tags??.. that sucks
I don't know for sure of any tagging programs that do directory->ID3 (most of them go the other way around), but you can probably find one. If not... then using the Zune software (or iTunes, even) to get all your music tagged properly would probably be the easiest thing to do. You wont have to do them "1 by 1" to get album/artist/genre/year, but you will have to go 1 by 1 to do track numbers and song titles. Have fun! |

for the most part they ID3 Tags are correct, they just need alot of cleanup. Standardization IE: I whould have two artists "P.O.D." and "P.O.D" Or 3 sound tracks named "Garden state" & "Garden State OST" & " Gardent State Offical Sound track." |

i was and still isn't a fan of id3 organizing, i have always wanted a mp3 player that doesn't run off this. so when the zune hd hack came out i was real happy i can do all my music sorting the way i want to and not by id3 tags |

I have full ID3 tags on my files, I'm a stickler for perfection. I also always name my files in the following format: Artist Name - Song Title always using proper use of capitalization. If it is a live track or a remix I put [Live] or [Remix] in brackets respectively, after the Artist - Song of course. I organize my files in directories for each artist, I do NOT put them in sub-directories under the artists for albums... I let the ID3 tags handle that for me. The album title directories can be a real hassle with compilation albums or soundtracks so again I just put the song in the the artist's directory and make sure the ID3 tag reflects the proper album title.

when you guys say id3 tagging, your speaking about the tags that contain information about the artist, album, etc..etc correct?
that helps Zune place the songs in the correct folder instead of having, for example "Gladiator" instead of "Gladiator OST"

I too just purchased a Zune after using iPods for the last couple of years and I really like most everything about it
The only feature that I really miss is the "group by compilation" feature that iTunes and iPod offers. I am trying to think of a way to either rewrite my id3 tags or organize my files to get around this. It just renders the "by artist" method of navigating songs almost useless as it is now. Any help would be appreciated. |

I use musicbrainz to fix my ID3's, and I only got entire albums. Windows actually does a pretty good job with the album art.

All my music is mainly in "My Music". I usually use zMeta to organize music or videos. It's a great amazing simple to use program and when you see my Zune software, all my music is right under each other. They look like soldiers lining up for playback

Most of my stuff comes from Cd's, so the Real player does a not so nice tagging according to my standards, which are, everything Artist - Song title with capitals nicely put, no apostrophes, no accents, not even "n" instead of and, Album art is handled by me through zune software, even though it gets somewhat annoying with some songs that are on two different albums.
