Default [SOLVED] Tethered Zunes *Do* Power Down

In response to this article over here, yep, this one, I've found out you *can* power down your tethered Zune. You just have to take a different approach than the author was.

Basically all you do it disconnect your Zune from the synce device, press that Play/Stop combo button until the cows moo (or whatever expression he/she used), and then as soon as it shuts off *quickly* (quickly being a key word boys and girls) plug the synce cable back in.

I find that holding the Synce cable plug right in, but not all the way in the slot and then pushing it in completely as soon as I let go of the Power/Play/Pause/Stop button, won't cause it to start back up.

One thing I'm not sure about is whether the device will charge while it is powered down. My computer registers that a device has been plugged in (even when it's off), it just doesn't know what kind of device. I'll leave mine this way tonight and see if it will charge.

Also, this won't work while syncing (obviously). ;-)

Just thought someone might want to know.

It shouldn't be this way though. Especially with a workaround like that. If you aren't using your Zune, plug it in to charge it, then unplug it and shut it off. Also, I think if you take out the headphones, it will shut down. I am not sure about that though. Microsoft should address this issue in the next firmware update.

Eh, it doesn't *need* to be turned off while charging.
I don't think the device consumes that much electricty while idle. :-/

It isn't made to be shutdown for a reason. Think of it like a cellphone =.

I dont want to leave it on, I'm scared that the screen will have burn in issues, while connected.

Nah. You don't really have to worry about damage occuring from it being powered on all the time. It is perfectly safe to leave it on .

Oh, I know it's meant to stay on, but I just thought I would mention it can be turned off.

I'm just scared that the 'Connected' and the dots will get burned into the screen.

Just now, I was able to turn off my Zune while it was connected.

Press/hold the back button and down-left. Turns it right off.

Thats true, it does work...I wouldn't think of pressing the down button, and the back button. Hmm.
Nonetheless, this actually turns it off. My computer registers that it is completely off. When I do the trick I listed above, it still registers that a device is connected, it just doesn't know what device.

I wonder what the difference is.

EDIT: That actually resets the device. Instead of rebooting, like it does when you hold the back button and the up button, it actually turns the device completely off. Then when you restart it shows the Zune logo (which only appeares when your reset the device).

EDIT 2: I don't know what I'm talking about. Up and Down both do the same thing when you press and hold them in conjunction with the back button.
Sorry. -_-

Back button and down, turns it off. Back button and up reboots it.
