There's rumors out there that iPod is trying their own version of 'the social'. A step I have criticized since almost every site that is reporting it is refering it as iPod going in the Zune direction - something that will bring Zune some good press.
OH Apple is following the Zune? One thing that's being reported is a wireless sync feature - which is a idiotic idea. Why would anyone want to wirelessly sync and drain a ton of energy in the process instead of syncing while charging? Stooopid. Apple is reaching an all time high of stupidity. First it's their flawed media players, then their $1000 cell phone, and now this? Stoopid..... ![]() SOURCES: http://gizmodo.com/gadgets/crowding-...sic-277711.php http://www.macnn.com/articles/07/07/...e.like.patent/ http://www.electronista.com/articles...e.like.patent/

I like the idea of wireless syncing... It is kinda pointless though... cause you would have to get on the computer and convert the vid... or un-rar the music... but if there was a way past that then this would be nice.
and I think I read somewhere that you'll be able to search their library and request the songs you want. anyway... I wonder if their gunna get a radio too

Eh, as a somewhat unbiased party, I don't think all the microsoft fans should be talking.
I have yet to find someone who can give me a truly innovative idea which Microsoft has come up with. They don't, as a rule, come up with new ideas. They take old ideas which have already been done, tinker with them, adding a few proprietary features here and there, add their logo, and push it out the door. If someone can give me something which Microsoft has done which was never done before and was truly innovative, I'll consent that you're right. Until then, you've got no right to talk. Oh, and don't point at the Zune's "wifi". They took an existing protocol, crippled it severely, and that's it. |

It's not who does what, it's who does what better. There's nothing wrong with a little healthy competition. Apple will take what Microsoft did and try to improve on it. Hopefully Microsoft will take what Apple comes up with and add to it. So it's all good in my book. Besides, I don't really care what Apple does. I'm just going to enjoy my Zune for as long as it lasts. Then some time down the line I'll pick up the best product on the market that fits my needs and at my price range. Whether it's from Microsoft, Toshiba, Sony or god for bid Apple is irrelevant.

You just explained how the Zune's wifi is crippled. It doesn't do full wifi. You cannot connect to any other device than the Zune. If my car's gas cap would only come unscrewed at a certain gas station (one which might not be my favorite, to boot), wouldn't you say it's broken? Crippled wifi. Fact, not opinion. Question: Have you actually ever used the Zune's wifi in public, with another person? |

And the iPhone sucks. I've never bought a Microsoft Product. The only Apple product I've ever bought is an iPod, and I don't even run the Apple firmware. I run rockbox. On my computers, I run Linux. I'm not an apple fan. |

THE ZUNE IS A MEDIA DEVICE. It isn't a Blackberry so stop trying to compare the Zune to other wi-fi enabled devices that AREN'T media devices and say Zune's wi-fi is 'crippled'. It's functional. O and I guess you'd say the Sansas wi-fi is crippled too? It can only use wi-fi to link to other sansa owners over the internet. It's a media device too and it's just like Zune in that it simply uses the wi-fi medium to get certain things accomplished. Hey I have an idea. Why don't you go build your dream media player that does all the wi-fi you want and then see how much people can exploit it to steal music. Then, before you know it, you'll have the RIAA knocking at you door with a huge lawsuit. Microsoft ain't dumb, and I think they took that into account too....but that's not saying the wi-fi's crippled. And if you don't have a Zune, what kinda loser comes onto a Zune forum talking about something he doesn't own? ![]()

Does this mean we get to go to their forums and product pages and flame them?

I had never compared the Zune (previous to this post) to another device. Listen, I'm not arguing that the Zune needs full WiFi. In my original post (which you have taken and blown way out of its original context), I simply stated that the Zune's WiFi wasn't innovative or a Microsoft idea. And the Zune's WiFi is still crippled. It is functional. But still crippled. If I break my foot in four places, I can still hobble around on crutches. See? This isn't from a usability standpoint, simply a technical one. Quote:
