Default Won my Zune

I won my black Zune a few weeks ago as I put my card in a fishbowl for a drawing.

I was psyched to win it as my ipod nano (2gb) has been completely full for a few weeks and I was debating whether to buy a larger capacity mp3 player.

The Zune is great, for the most part. The big screen kills the current ipod and the functionality and customization ability is nice.

The 2 problems/cons I have with it is (hey I'm thrilled to death to win the thing, but thought I'd express my opinions on it):
1) the Zune software isn't compatible with my home computer - Windows XP 2004 Media Center edition - a 3 year old OS is obsolete? While MS's chief competitor Apple is compatible with all Microsoft computers. That's pretty bad. Lucky for me, it is compatible on my work PC, but I can't download songs at work, so I have to transfer my music, vids etc from home to work (via CD-RW's, etc).

2) My stock ipod earphones sound pretty darn good with my nano. The same exact mp3 files don't sound as clear and rich on my Zune. I swapped headphones between the ipod and Zune and no difference. So it must be the way the files are converted (to aac on ipod vs wma on zune?). So now I'm shopping for better earphones.

If I had bought the thing instead of winning it, I might have been a little bitter about these 2 things, but hopefully Microsoft will improve these things on the next version. I can imagine a lot of folks buying the Zune and having older operating systems at home and having to return it for not being compatible. That's a big oversight on Microsoft's part.

But other that that I love the thing and have started loading it up. I just need to find a good fm transmitter for the car. Belkin Tune Base for ipod worked great with the nano, but reviews on the same one for Zune are so, so, so i need to figure out what to best get for the car.

And Zune Boards is a great site! Great stuff and advice on here. Happy to be in the zune club now.

Wow, you sure are lucky to win a free zune! Not many people get those opportunities.

Glad you like the site.
