Personally, I hate apple - It is too damn grass roots lets all be friends for me. I knew I needed a MP3 player though; because life is just better with music to tune people out with for sure.
I was looking around out there, and was considering an Ipod nano, small compact and will get the job done I suppose. Then I saw the Zune, Micro$ofts answer to the Ipod. Well I have used computer for years, and naturally I have a deep loathing for them and all things associated with them, so I got to thinking, lots of other people must hate M$ too right? I realized that for no other reason then to stick it to Microsoft people were going to hack/mod/upgrade and generally tool around with their zunes in ways that deviated from the EULA/warrenty. That's what I wanted from a music player, one with a community supporting it that didn't particularally care if they voided their warrenty dropping in a new battery or modding the firmware. I went with the zune because I figured there would be a steady stream of mods for it from the population at large even if Microsoft never did a thing to upgrade it. The fact it has so much to work with such as the WIFI is just cherry. Personally I am loving my Zune, when the music I load onto it gets old I can always flip over to FM radio or watch some videos from Youtube. |

I think people do it because Microsoft is out there as a company trying to make a profit, which last time I checked with the only exception being Non-Profit Org., all companies are out there to make money. So in reality, those people should put a $ with any company out there trying to make money. Micro$oft Apple'$ O$X $I$B$M$ $$$INTEL$$$ $$AMD$$$$$ $nVidia$ $$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$DI$NEY$$$$$$$$$$$$$ $$$$$$$$$$$$ etc. In fact, the next time I respond to someone's post, thread, IM message, email, whatever and they have M$ I will put $$$$ in my reply especially when referencing other companies.

Don't get me wrong, I use micro"s"oft products and apprecaite the company but there is no denying thier overall goal is the all mighty Dollar.
That's what makes them what they are, leaders in their field. Go big or go home and all that. Going big makes them a big target for all sorts of reasons though, and for the zune I think it works in their favor. But yes I suppose if I put a dollar sign in Microsofts name I aught to put a dollar sign everywhere it goes. For instance why not U$A![]() |

Personally, I really like Microsoft's products. Really haven't had any problems with Windows or anything else they make. But I'll agree that I really wish they wouldn't nickel-and-dime the consumer so much. I mean c'mon...$400 for an operating system?! I know its the Full version of the everything but the kitchen sink version, but I still think that's way overpriced for an OS. ![]() |

They wanted to make a profit on their two million lines of code that they created. Do you know how long it would take to even count to 2 million and remember they are creating stuff not just putting code together and implementing it with a new interface *cough* Apple *cough*. But then again i didn't pay for it

Not everyone needs the $400 Full Install of Vista Ultimate. If you have a copy of XP or don't have a copy of Windows at all you can do a Clean Install by following the instructions that have propagated all over the internet. Plus, Microsoft tells you how. End up saving $150 or more that way by buying the Vista Ultimate Upgrade.
All most users need is Vista Home Basic or Premium. Business people will need Business or Enterprise. Those who use the networking utils that only comes in Business or Enterprise and needs Windows Media Center as well, will want to get Vista Ultimate. I use Vista Ultimate, only because I wanted the networking and other features found in only the Business editions PLUS have Windows Media Center so I could use Media Center on my Xbox360. Good Time$. EDIT: P.S. Apple charges around $129 to $199 every year for Mac O$X. If you add up the years it builds up into a chunk of change whereas with Windows people are still using XP, which they only had to buy once and it is still good to 2009 or 2010 when Microsoft cuts support for it but it doesn't mean you have to stop using the OS. My copy of Vista should be good for at least 4-5 years. Granted they may try to pass Vienna out onto me but I will hold out until the next version unless it is worthwhile to upgrade to Vienna.

got a black and then a pink, upgraded the drive in the pink to 100G's - now extremely happy with it. prior to the zune, I used (but still have) creative zen jukebox and micro and archos 700 AV 100G. When I travel, I take my zune and archos. Basically, as soon as mp3 players came out - my very first one was the archos 20G jukebox in 99 or 2000 I think, then creative jukebox (the one that looks like a cd player), then creative 60 G, then a rio carbon 1.5 g for working out to the ones I have today (I gave away a few of them to family members as gifts).
As far as Microsoft goes, my hubby works for MS in the games division - xbox 360. he works long hours to create cool stuff. Even though I have personal ties to MS, I am happy with the products I use and want them to do well - it is a pat on the back for those who put in long hours, hopefully doing something they enjoy. We have a 360 but I haven't tried to use it with my zune yet. have to explore that sometime when I can get my son off of it. |
