The first problem I had was:
I started turning my zune off over night. Somehow the firmware got corrupted (that's what tech support said). The firmware was corrupted or something, and the zune wouldn't turn on after staying idle, or in "off" mode (when you hold the play button) I would leave it for 10 minutes and I could only turn it back on by draining the battery.

I fixed that problem by reformatting the zune.

Second problem:
Same as the first. But this time I did it on purpose (so that I would know what caused the problem)

I fixed it the same way, and I didn't have any problems after that.

Third problem:
Same as the first. I didn't use my zune for 24 hours and it shut itself down (which corrupted the firmware again)

I tried to reformat it twice now... and it still has the same problem. I avoid it by shutting the zune down after use. (this way I can turn it back on later). I'm waiting for the next firmware to see if that fixes the problem. If it doesn't I'll get a new zune with the warranty.

Fourth problem: (it happened the same day as the third problem)
The zune software stopped detecting my zune.

I fixed it by running devmgmt.msc and reinstalling the drivers for the zune device. Then the next time I plugged it in I had the same problem, so I reinstalled the zune software, and then reinstalled the drivers again.

Now it's detected fine. But I still have to shut my zune down, otherwise it gets stuck in "off" mode.

I really hope the 1.4 firmware fixes my problem.

Edit:

Addon:

The zune headphones broke... dunno why... Whenever I listen to a song... the vocals are really quiet... It sounds ok with my speakers... and the schools PA system lol.

I hooked it up after the last bell... it was pretty awesome... it made everybody feel like they were in a crappy teen movie.

anyway... I was confused because it has the same problem with my headphones... and the stock earbuds... I think that maybe they got shorted out yesterday or something. I used both of them... so that's the only thing I can think if that might have caused it.

I did drop my zune yesterday but if it still sounds fine over my speakers... then it wouldn't be the zune... just the headphones (both of them...)

well... after testing some different stuff out I figured that it's my zune haedphone jack... not the headphones.

I think the problem is that the zune isnt' supplying the headphones with enough power to reproduce the right sounds. That's why they work with speakers but not headphones.

Addon:

I called tech support yesterday... they weren't able to figure out what was wrong with my zune... so they're mailing me a box to send my zune back to them.

Addon:

not a problem... kinda... I finaly got my box to send the zune back in... only took about two weeks... should have only taken 3-5 days. My zune should start being shipped tomorrow at 6 pm... then I don't know how long it'll take to get my replacement.

also... the 1.4 firmware didn't fix the problem of the zune freezing while in "off" mode. So that must have been a hardware malfunction too.

so did your headphones break or your headphone jack?

I hope for your sake it was the headphones... because I'm guessing the jack is hard to fix.

double post... oh well

HOPEFULLY THE END OF ALL MY PROBLEMS:

I got my zune back from microsoft, everything is working properly... nothing wrong with anything. It's too bad I got a refurbished zune, but everything is working well.. the middle buttons are a little scratched up, but as long as the screen is free of blemishes i'm happy.

lets hope I don't have to post anything in here anymore.
