Default Zune Shuts Down In Car

I have an Alpine in-dash tv head unit with a brain. I hook the zune in my auxilary in the brain and after a few seconds the zune shuts down. I also have a system in my car so I thought that turning the system up was doing this, so I unhooked the subs and the zune works fine, but soon as I hook the subs back up the zune shuts down. I called Microsoft and no offense but I always get a guy who speaks horrible english, and they all tell me the same thing the monster cable im using isnt compatible with the zune and buy the $80.00 FM transmitter. So I got smart and bought the zune a/v wires for the home tv which has the video and audio outputs and hooked it up in the car, it did the same thing. I called Microsoft again they said the same thing buy the $80.00 FM transmitter, is this thing any good because everywhere I go to buy it they say it sucks and the monster cables are the best sound quality you are going to get. If thats the case and the zune will continue to do this without the fm transmitter I dont even want the zune anymore Ill get an IPOD!

yes ive heard from many reviews of it being horrible and the signal strength isnt strong. Also it is a hugeeeeee waste of money. $80 for an FM Transmitter no thank you. you can buy third party ones for much cheaper.

This might have something to do with the Zune's static shutdown features. Maybe your amp is surging against your head unit and causing feedback across the aux inputs. I don't really know, but it's an idea..

DO NOT BUY THE FM TRANSMITTER! Even if you set it right no top of your dash, it barely works. It has to be like 2 inches away from the radio to work.

one of my acquaintances, dyer13, has given a completely and utterly amazing tutorial. http://www.zunemods.net/Extend_the_R...tter-va13.html
works great, but if you cut the hole in the transmitter in the wrong spot, you can't close the unit all the way

Ok... i'm gunna tell you the oposite of what everyone says... get the transmitter... mine works fine no matter where I am in the car. and if it doesn't work well in your car, just go get your money back.

It works well in my moms car, but I have to hold it close to the radio in my sister's car... but the sound quality is excelent, and it's easy to use. I havent tried it in my truck yet, but it probably wont work well in there, but that's ok cause I have a sound input in my radio...

but yeah... the sound is not bad at all and if your radio is good enough then it should work fine

btw, my sister's radio barely works for local stations.

Default Thanks for the feedback I have advice for static shutdown

Thanks for the feedback on the FM transmitter, I wasn't really planning on spending another $80 on it when I just spent damn near $270 after tax for the zune. I do however have a bit of advice for anyone going through the same thing i am with the static shutdown. I went to sally's hair supply and purchased a 99 cents bag of small black rubber bands, you can also purchase @ Walmart or any department store that has a hair section. I took like 2 out of the bag of like 500 and put them around the plug that inserts into the top of the zune and also around the prongs on the brain in my car from the zune a/v cable. Try to put them as close to the edge of the plug on the zune as possible on the metal, every since then it has not shut down. I know for a fact this is the reason this has stopped the static shutdown because as soon as i take the rubber bands off about 30 seconds later, a shutdown! I don't know about everyone else but i dont think i should have had to spend more money on a rubber case as in the advice from the other forums so I thought of this measure instead. Good Luck to whoever else has this problem and hang in there im hoping Microsoft will work out some of the bugs on one of their upcoming update downloads. By the way does anyone know when the second generation of zunes come out that have less bugs than the first gen?
