Default love the zune, maybe?

well, seeing as i'm new here, i wanted to ask some people about ways to make the zune more efficient. the first question being, why does the zune skip when you have the backlight off, and when it is on, it doesn't (might only happen if you have lots of music on it). the second being why the darn thing has the worst battery life i ahve ever seen! i need to charge it every few days, and with my wifes, excuse my french, ipod, she charges it every week or so, and she drives 20 more minutes to work then i do! is there any other battery that i could put in there that i could finally not have to charge so often?. thirdly, i liked the zune pass, so i bought it for a month and got 1500 songs or so, and now, month and a half after i canceled the pass, my items have expired. i tried to be sneaky and move the files out of the zune folder, but to no avail. is there any site/converter/drm remover i could download OTHER than soundtaxi out there..free would be nice, but if theres any free..it would be nice. and finally, i didn't want black, but i didn't really want white or brown (though i like the brown more now) so i took black. if i was to take apart the zune and replace the battery, would it be possible to either chemically or manually strip the black off the inside of the case? i know all tha would be involved in taking everything off, except i think the buttons have some weird copper backing that holds them on and i want to know if i can just respray them with a..more friendly color. it would be cool to also have some embedded something under the blue plastic. i know that the thing is double shot, and was just wondering if i could, cause if i can have more battery, and different colors, i think i might die (in a good way)

I believe the skipping is a known issue with the Microsoft Marketplace tracks. I've never experienced it, but I don't use it. The battery is probally draining fast because you have the wireless on, the screen brightness up, and the screen on all the time. The zune has a bigger screen that requires more power to use then an ipods. Use the screen less and the battery will last longer. It also helps to turn the zune off instead of putting it into standby mode.

Regarding try to cheat the Zune Pass music DRM, simply moving them wont do crap. You know that is illegal right? Tunebite would work. It's not free tough.

Don't bother changing the color of your zune.

Information on prolong the battery can be found in these forums. Use the search.

funny thing though, i didn't know that was technically illegal, but oh well..my backlight is on low, and on 5 seconds. i didn't think moving them would do it either

If I were you i would just forget zune marketplace completely and use something like frostwire or another P2P client.

(just to clerify i never admitted to the usage of sed software) ;D

so, if i was to ask, figuratively of course, if i could find this and other p2p programs that you could possibly download whole albums, where would a person not looking for these programs not go to find them? maybe in a pm?

soulseek at http://www.slsknet.org/
right click the file you want to download, and it will give you the option of downloading the whole folder. as most people group albums by folder, dl'ing the folder with give you the whole album.

Torrents, I find, are much more effective than Soulseek or Frostwire or anyting of that sort.

then there is also the more legal (i think) way of getting music browsing open directories just paste : -inurl:htm -inurl:html intitle:"index of" mp3 "what your looking for" :in google. sometimes its affective and other times not, putis is right torrents are evry effective but they sometimes contain viruses (not that that would stop me ;D if i got that kind of stuff)

Torrents are a lot safer, and reliable than P2P programs like Soulseek. I've never gotten a virus or anything malicious from a torrent, and I've been using them for a few years now. I have however, gotten more than a few viruses using various P2P programs.

Also, that google thing is very effective, if you know that 'google language.'

Try this: javascript:Qr='';if(!Qr){void(Qr=prompt('ENTER ARTIST OR SONG NAME:',''))};if(Qr)location.href='http://www2.google.com/ie?query=%22parent+directory%22'+escape(Qr)+'% 22+mp3+OR+wma+OR+ogg+-html+-htm&num=100&hl=en&lr=&ie=UTF-8&oe=UTF-8&safe=active&sa=N'

Make that a bookmark.

putis, your google vocab is obviuosly more advanced than mine , would you mind giving me a lesson or something ;D I never really used torrents, but it sounds like something i might try, i had heard they were more prone to being infected but then again i cant remember where i heard that so i am probably wrong ;D

I didn't make that, but you should be able to find guides and such on all the little tricks to use google like that.

Torrents are definitely safer, ask around, most people will probably say the same.

okay, i have a question. well a few questions and a few statements. the first being, i would love torrents if they had my music, but they have mostly mainstream ,and i want to be able to download whole albums. i did however purchase limewire pro (the last version, i think it is 4.12.3) and i really don't think it is impressive at all. torrents are the best bet, but is there any other place, other than thepiratebay.org that i can access freely without downloading. i have every bit of 40 gigs used on my computer, around 20 is music and i need to not download anything else like ,aarg, bitlord. i will explore the google script language looks intriguing, i will have to check it out. thanks again for all the help, i always knew microsoft has better brand loyalty....and helpfulness, save the customer support

For torrents, try torrent-finder.com.

After the box pops up, and you enter the info, it will bring back a bunch of indexes relating to what you searched for.

Here's an example: I clicked on my little bookmark, the box popped up, I typed 'madonna.'

I got: http://www.google.com/ie?query=%22pa...fe=active&sa=N

The 7th result on that page, "7. Index of /music/Madonna" takes me to here:
http://209.142.155.49:8080/music/Madonna/

Voila!
