Default Windows Vista

Is anyone going to upgrade to Windows Vista? I don't plan on upgrading, until I get a totally new computer. It looks pretty nice, but there's a lot of mixed reviews.

I just ordered a laptop for my aunt off of Dell and they gave me a free Vista Upgrade CD. Plan on installing it as soon as i redeem it.

MSDN subscriber here! I have access to it, but I won't install it right now. There's barley any drivers available for it.

I'm also going to wait till I upgrade my PC. I love the look and improved security of Vista, but I can wait till I get a new processor and add another GB of RAM. Maybe by then Microsoft will have some of the bugs worked out and I can find the Ultimate edition for under $400.00. (wishful thinking)...haha

Nope. I don't plan on 'upgrading' anytime soon.

well, the reason I'm pissed about it, is that I have a 256Mb Graphics card in my lappy, but I can't run the Areo interface! So that pisses me off. Right now, I'm installing Vista on VMware, and I suggest you do the same before you upgrade!

That's because Vista is just a bloated peice of graphical garbaged. 1gig of memory usage on a default install with no third-party applications running are you kidding me?

Microsoft is known for this, it's a powerful OS, but it DOES run better than OS X on a windows machine (Yes, it's possible, I've done it myself). However, it still consumes 36% of my RAM just STANDING there.

I just got rid of Vista, I find XP alot faster. All my drivers are supported by Vista though.

I'll just dual boot with it when a proper crack comes out althogh the new Ubuntu is looking very good...

If you're going to buy it the best place (cheapest as far as I know) is overclockers.co.uk, they have an OEM Ultimate for £130 or something like $280. And it works.

I currently have a triple boot: Vista, Xp Media Center and Kubuntu on my laptop.
From all these operating systems I prefer kubuntu because no other operating system can have the wonderful BERYL.

I have Vista 64 bits Ultimate and i can say that its memory consumption is Insane!!!
I'll stay with the Vista and I will never pay for it. I mean nothing is compatible, just a few things.
So if u want to buy a Vista be sure to buy the Ultimate version (the most expensive one) cuz if u buy the home edition it is like XP with windows blind.

And I use my Zune with Vista because I found it very stable. I did the firmw buy it are upgrade in the first try.

Another thing is to not buy it right now; wait for the Sp1 and for all the programs to be compatible.

Speaking of Unix Based Operating Systems, has anyone tried PC BSD or Desktop BSD? How do they stack up to Linux OSs and do they support an ATI video card? I plan to try a live CD of one of those but I don't know if its even worth it yet. Otherwise I would go with Ubuntu/Kubuntu.

I plan to get Vista when they release the Student Copy and I build the new rig, which is built for the purpose of 64 bit OS.

I just wanted to let everyone know that Vista is a bunch of crap. I can back this up with actually information. As I've used both the betas and the final RTM version.

I'm happy with looking at my porn and downloading/uploading/converting pirated movies, music, and appz on windows xp. Because I don't use all of that high-quality software anymore.

Why would I buy anything that supports total lock-down of everything. You wouldn't even be able to backup your own DVDs.

I just found a "Lite" version (downloading now) of Vista, and it's DRM free, and uses a lot less resources

If it's reliable, I'll post a link to the torrent (it's on Demoniod though, so unless you have an account...).
