Hey guys. As you know I enjoy to do graphic design. I have realized that whenever I look at something in a magazine or on TV I say to myself things they could have improved on. (They should of cut that out better, they should of just overlayed that layer etc. I read online about how if you do that kind of stuff, you should go into graphic design. I have chosen to pursue graphic design as a career. I am 13 as of now, and have been doing graphic design since I was 10-11 years old. I am very committed to graphic design and practice, and get new ideas every day. I will be going to a trip in Italy on February 17th, and I will for sure be getting ideas there. I always get ideas wherever I go. I need a laptop to keep track of these ideas and put them into action. Now you may say, "Just use a pencil and paper." I have done that in the past. I have the idea fresh in my head right when I get it. I like to put my ideas into action as soon as I get them. Otherwise they are not as good. I'm sure you guys can relate. I am looking to get a laptop like the Dell Inspiron E1705, Dell XPS m1210, or the Sony VGN-AR190G. My aunt has decided to pitch in $300, and I am going to sell my old dirtbike (after I fix it up) and sell it for $600. There will be $300 put into fixing it, so I will only be making $300. I am looking at laptops that cost $900+. If anyone has any of these laptops, or laptops similar to these, please tell me. Also, if anyone is able too, please donate a small amount of money. By small I mean as low as $1. Every penny helps me. This is something that will help me in life. I don't mean to beg at all. I am just simply asking for a little bit of help. If you would like to donate money, please PM me for a paypal address.

Hey man, good luck finding the right laptop. If you're going to be doing mostly graphics on the laptop, a Mac could be good. But then again, you might hate Apple.

Most graphic designers will use Mac almost exclusively. It's just the like the industry standard nowadays. I know someone who is a graphic designer and that is all he uses at work.
I don't think you are in desperate need of a laptop though. I mean why do you have to jot down ideas on the go anyway. You're 13 and you really don't have a need to do so. I don't think you are very poor off as to require donations. I wouldn't expect any, but I'm just saying that a dirt bike, a trip to Italy, a Zune even for that matter are all expensive items. I think at thirteen you'd be better off worrying about school instead of building a portfolio. If you can raise the money by all means, but just slow down a bit and don't expect handouts. |

Pursue your dreams...if you're thirteen and already well off on doing graphics...then continue with it and don't let things get in your way. If you're good with graphics, then you are likely good with drawing too.....so what i'd recommend is getting a good art pad & good drawing pencils & other various things...you end up spending about $30 instead of a few thousand.... and if you were to get a mac...you'd spend a ton of money for a trashy computer (compared to the price of a pc that you could get for the same price) pcs can do EVERYTHING a mac can do graphically...they cost less....and they do a lot of other things that macs can't do...and they're compatible with more things than macs. Back to the school thing...if you're going to another country....then obviously school is not your worry for that time. You SHOULD start building a portfolio now....by the time most other people doing graphics are going to college to start learning stuff you already know...you'll be able to go get a job at a company that they're gonna try to work at after they finish college. I don't think you're really in dire need of a laptop though. Just draw the things you want and then make them on your pc when you get home. |

If I were you I'd look at what BOXX technologies has to offer. They're computers were used for some movies like the DaVinci code and whatnot, very powerful computers for pretty cheap compared to others..

If you check out Woot.com they have a Gateway M275 Tablet Notebook up for $555.00 and that includes shipping. Might be worth a look if you're looking for a cheap notebook, but it is a referb.
Just to note, things go quick on that site and it's currently a "Woot! Off." If you're not familiar with Woot! that just means that as soon as that notebook sells out they're going to put another random item up.
