Uh, I would advise going with someone who you don't even feel comfortable asking out or have no prior dating relationship before this.

You would be in fro a very (very) awkward and possibly unpleasant night sir.

Faux is right, though I have no experience in stuff like this and also seeing as I am a sophomore in high school and have never asked anyone to a dance, You are going to want to ask someone who would enjoy going to prom with you, thus negating the awkwardness that could be prevalent.

Turns out I asked her last weekend and this was her reply: I don't even know I am going to the Prom. But if I do change my mind, Ill tell you. Im not sure what to expect now.

I wasn't going to go to my senior prom, because my girlfriend had hers last year and that's the one I went to, but I changed my mind, going to senior prom now!

BTW. how's the progress with that girl coming along?

I agree with most above, you need to "prime the pump" by chatting her up a bit. Do not go straight for the kill (asking her to the prom) otherwise you will look desperate.

After bringing down her guard, then ask her and ....
have a great prom!

the only girl i asked to a "ROTC ball" was that friend i talked about in the other forum, but i asked her to it as a friend not a girlfriend

but look. even if you barely know the girl, im sure she would be flattered to be asked to go to a dance. and the worst thing that could happen, is that she tells you no. so dont fret: just ask.
