I had seen several screens for the iPod to play movies on the go, but I couldn't find one for the Zune... So I thought: I can make one! The result is here.
This is my latest finished project of a Portable Zune Player (PZP). The guts are from a Coby with 7" inch screen. I got it off eBay for 30$ including shipping, since it didn't read DVDs. The fact is, it has a video input so I could connect my Zune there... I took out the actual dvd reader out, made space for the Zune, soldered pins from the 3.5 plug (which goes into the Zune) to the video input plugs, painted the unit black and voilà! Now I just need to paint the battery (the silver thing under the player)... I can watch movies from the player on a bigger screen, or connect something else to the PZP and see the output on its screen. Total time: approximately a month, working during my spare time from school. I just hope they're gonna let me take it on the plane... ;-) Images: ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() |

Very cool! It's nice to see some people finally stepping up to the plate to make some hardware mods/accessories. DIY ftw.

Wow! I'm impressed... You should sell it on ebay and make some $$$s.

wow that thing is great, it's kinda funny how something thats intended to be a portable movie player needs to have a larger screen on it though.
your invention is pretty cool

this is really cool. Just wondering though does the buttons on the DVD player work for it or do you have to use the zune buttons?

I've thought about using the zune accessory that comes in the travel pack and hack it to use the buttons but I don't feel like spending that much money for something like that. I just use the Zune buttons, they do the job fine!

We can make a deal: you pay for another broken DVD player, and I'll make an Instructable... ;-)
Actually, I have the intentions of opening it up again in a few weeks, I'll take some pics and post them here. They can serve as a general guide! |
