What can I do about the memory used for album artwork?

Hello! I currently have 3,740 songs loaded on my Zune (and in my library). Out of the 3,740, appx. 35% have album artwork associated - and I do not have any photos or videos loaded...just music.
To my surprise, per my Zune, I now only have 9 GB available...which seems really low considering the library on the Zune should hold 7,500 songs.
I have deleted all of the content on my Zune and re-added it, thinking that maybe everything didn't erase entirely. Same result.
So, does the album artwork really take up this much memory? Or is there a way I can compress the artwork so it doesn't take up so much space? AND if not, can I just block all album artwork from loading onto my Zune & just have the music?[/color]
