OK....since the big glitch and all the posts were deleted (including my original thread on this topic) I'm reposting....
According to ZuneScene, a source from Microsoft has reported an issue in the production of the new 80GB hard-drive Zune. The 2nd generation Zune (codenamed
SCORPIO) is now to be delayed due to "a significant percentage" of units "experiencing continuity problems between the flex cable and
pcb." Basically a wire was coming loose.
Emergency meetings were conducted and a new "S" design for the cabel was implemented to relieve tension and resolve the issue.
The reported production was to be finished by Aug 31st which would've probably set the release well in time for Christmas (possibly September or October). But now Microsoft may be hard pressed to do so. The flash Zune (codenamed
DRACO) started production July 23rd and is expected to be complete on time (August) and may be out as early as September.
Soon! Looks like they'll be out very soon!
