Hopefully someone will correct me if I'm wrong but IF:
All the songs you want are on the Zune and you don't plan on adding anymore (or making any changes) AND if you
never sync your Zune then the songs on the Zune should stay there. Basically, you'll be using your PC as a charger for your Zune.
