There is no reason for someone to be terrified of ruining their registry unless they delete a bunch of keys that they are not supposed to, in which case they would be complete morons and hopefully that would cause their computer to not work anymore, temporarily sparing the rest of us from their stupidity.
If I seem a bit too harsh, that is because I have a zero-tolerance policy for stupidity. Of course, I am not calling anyone here an idiot.

Clicking a mouse and delving into your registry are completely different things.
As for following instructions -- there is always, and I mean ALWAYS, a risk to doing things like this. What about XP users? What about x64 users? Are these instructions the same for them? (again, not faulting Prodigy12 here) Being conservative is usually the best course of action, and not stupid in any way. On the contrary, assuming the instructions will automatically work for you without taking steps to backup your data first is actually not the most intelligent thing to do.
Btw, you might want to avoid any service-oriented jobs.
