Lightbulb Hacking Zune 3.01

Before proceeding you must have adequate computer application knowledge. You must have enough computer knowledge to make slight changes in your PC registry. Thank You.

This hack will allow you to delete stuff off your Zune in Windows Explorer with the new Zune firmware.

This is an extension to the old tutorial so if you know where all the data is located and have already gone through the old tutorial you can skip to step 6.

Deleting files from your Zune might not seem like a big feat, however this hack is simply the beginning. If we work together we may finally get full power over the storage device. Complete and undenied power!!!

Anyways here is the entire hack from a-z:

Hacking Zune with firmware 3.1!
1. Make sure your Zune is not plugged in and your Zune software isn't running.

2. Open up regedit by going to the start menu and selecting "run". Type regedt32 and hit "OK".

3. Browse to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\ControlSet001\Enum\USB\

4. Search for "PortableDeviceNameSpace". This should be contained in the Vid_####&Pid_####\########_-_########_-_########_-_########\Device Parameters within the above ...\USB\ The ##'s listed here will be numbers and letters specific to your Zune.

5. Change the following values:
·EnableLegacySupport to 1
· PortableDeviceNameSpaceExcludeFromShell to 0
·ShowInShell to 1

Extension for Zune 3.01 compatibility starts here

6. Click on subfolder WUDF and change:
·Exclusive to 0000 00 00 00 00 (aka 0)

7. Click on subfolder ZuneDriver and change:
·UseWpdPrivateInterface to 0000 00 00 00 00 (aka 0)

8. Now when your Zune is plugged in you should be able to browse to the Zune as a Portable Device, however you don't have permission to do ANYTHING but view the files.

So unplug your zune and go back to regedit. Now Right click on USB (the upper-level folder where all of this stuff is located) and click "Permissions"

9. Perhaps the hardest part... You will need to be logged in as an Admin to do this. To modify files in your Zune you need to take ownership over the USB registry folder. This is done in a DIFFERENT way than adding permissions. Here is how you do it:

·Go to Advanced.
· Click on the Owner Tab.
· In the "Change Owner To:" box, click on your name.
·Now click on the "Replace owner on subcontainers and objects"
·Press OK.

Now that you are the owner, you can add permission for yourself to have full access to the folder.

( If you need more help with file ownership refer to: Take Ownership of file - Vista Forums )

10. Now you can plug the Zune back in. THIS IS IMPORTANT: Turn off the zune software, it will conflict with windows explorer. Double check in Regedit if all the values are set correctly.

Done! Browse to Computer. If you did everything correctly, and didn’t ruin your computer in Regedit, you should see a new device pop up under "Other". Have fun deleting stuff off your Zune!

NOTICE:
If this isn't working try doing steps 5-10 in the other USB folders located in ControlSet002, ControlSet003, etc. It will work, eventually…

Reply if this hack works for you, as it did for me.
