I don't think you are going to find any free tools for removing DRM from music files. It would be wise to invest in something like SoundTaxi if you are going to do that. I use it all the time and have never regretted the cost. I reinstall windows from time to time and recently installed Ubuntu. SoundTaxi allowed me to backup my DRM'd music (although I try not to get DRM ever) and use it with my other installations.
You may not want to pay for it, but it will be cheaper than buying all your DRM music again. Also, you MUST have the license for the DRM music or no software will be able to remove the DRM. Basically all SoundTaxi (and others) do is play the music via high-speed dubbing to it's own drivers and re-encodes and/or copies the music as a new file.
So if you can not play the file on your machine, then no software will be able to give you a non-DRM'd copy.
