see this is where my diamond grid starts to either fail or get extremely complex. i wanted the user to have more then just a four part turn when moving around to have more detail. so i came up with the diamond shape. but with the diamond shape walking down hall ways you could only walk horizontal. and walking vertical would give issues due to the fact that you just would not be able to walk straight.
so this is where we come to a cross roads. due to the fact that i'm pretty sure no other shape (with a descent amount of sides in order to do this)
........... i just solved the problem......
we could have special units at the end of a corridor. so in a open area we'll use the diamonds and in small corridors we can use the squares. the special units will be a transition.
ok ok, so basically to answer your question tut the corridors should be one GU wide. however what i would like to do in this game is have a good amount of open areas, due to the fact that no matter what is in each of these pictures they will render out of my program the same size, so we can have some pretty good looking environments we really don't need to limit it to just corridors if we don't want to.
